EDC Bag?
on: January 28, 2010, 02:19:59 PM
Hey,I have recently bought a Maxpedition Monga, however I don't actually know what to carry in it. My Laptop fits so it will be used as a work bag.
Could people please post pics etc of your EDC bag to give me ideas?

Thanks in Advance John. :)

I am lazy an taking this from another thread but it is my load in the Maxpedition Fatboy

(Image removed from quote.)

Starting at the bottom right: Earplugs, a Supertool 300 in a SURGE!!! Sheath, mini pry bar, 130 lumens Vortex TC3 flashlight, spare cr123 batteries for the flashlight, SOG Flash 1 (nobody wants it so I just carry it for sake of carrying it),  notebook, 2 pens and the one on the right has a little red light built in to it so you can write without a flashlight and the white bottle is hand disinfection.

The large camo pouch is a notebook pouch where I have 2 write in the rain notebooks and some pens and a black marker pen, I am going to swap it out with a EDC organizer. The green thing wrapped in plastic is a trauma dressing or is it called a shell dressing? And the white thing above the green thing is a triangle shaped cloth that you can make a tourniquet out of (does it have an English name?) or a sling or other useful things. I got a small pack of band aids that I will throw in there since it don’t take up that much space.

And I almost forgot my little mouth to mouth mask

Confession time.  I like the notion of an EDC bag, but most of my EDC bags sit unused.

I bought a succession of at least 7 Maxpedition and Spec-Ops EDC-type bags in an attempt to find the "right one" for my use.  Each time I bought an EDC bag, I outfitted it with items I thought I wanted to carry.

In the end, I couldn't become accustomed to carrying an EDC bag due to the added weight, the concern of what to do with it when in places like restaurants, the hassle of putting it on (and taking it off) when exiting a truck, etc.

Now, I don't carry a bag and reverted back to using my pockets and a belt holster or two to carry EDC items.

That said, I still keep a Maxpedition Proteus filled with useful gear in the truck.

I find a messenger bag is the only way I can EDC a bag.  While I love backpacks, they require more time on/off and take up more space.  A messenger bag just slings over my head and is really completely out of the way.

For hiking, gym work etc, a backpack is fine, but really I find the same shortcomings you list.

Nothing specific, but it would be cool with one on the Pocketorg. or Snugpack..  :)

BTW here are the two bags I most use, a lovely heavy leather one that only gets swapped every so often as it really is quite heavy in it's own right and I get bored of lugging it around sometimes.

The other you can see in the background of this picture, just a high street brand messenger type bag but in a nice heavy cotton canvas.  BTW in case you hadn't guessed the axe isn't part of my EDC. :)

As I have posted in a couple of other threads I now keep most of my EDC bits in this pouch that can be swapped around between any bag.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

My daughter pinched the only spares I have of that size Allan. Milspecmonkey only charges about $3 international postage and I got mine in about a week though - have you looked at his site?

It would cost me that much to send one from the UK if I got one on my next order I reckon!

Course I can Swissman!

The bag is a Maxpedition Fatboy Versipack: http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=31&idcategory=4

The Fatboy comes in two "flavours" mine is the one designed for carrying on your right side, the "S-Type" is designed for left-hand carry. The 2nd picture shows a mag holder accessory that velcros inside the concealed carry pocket, and I've a MOLLE attached PDA case on the rear strap in which I keep my camera so it's easy to grab if needs be. I'm very happy with it :)

The organiser is the Maxpedition EDC Pocket Organiser: http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=961&idcategory=14

Check out the new colours too, some of them are great :tu:
