Carbon steel Mora, what can I expect?
on:

Just received Mora 612 and triflex in the mail, in carbon steel.
I've read that they use euro equivalent of 1095, what's your experience with it? How's rust resistance, or edge holding compare to stainless? From my experience with Mora's stainless is while it can hold edge on wood quite well, more abrasive material like cardboard will dull it very quickly.
These two are my first real foray into carbon steels.

Not sure of the model, but my mora has the 3 layers of steel. It has a wicked edge, and was still sharp after dressing a deer. It will rust or discolor easily if left wet. I keep it oiled to prevent that.
Cardboard kills any steel quickly, I'll use a serrated edge from a leatherman or similar to deal with that. It's not nice to do that to a good knife.
Moras have to be the best bargain on the market.

I've got a Mora Triflex Craftsman (carbon steel). One of the sharpest knives I own...east to maintain the edge, but the steel itself will discolor very easily. The discoloration/patina doesn't bother me at all, but I do keep it clean and dry after use.

I've got a Mora Craftsman Triflex Carbon #780 and a Craftline Allround stainless. I love them both and never had a problem with either. Higher carbon steels can get a sharper edge than stainless but you have to take care to prevent rust. I lightly coated my 780 with mineral oil. I think you'll be happy with your Mora. Good luck with it. It's a damn good for the $.

Patina I don't mind, but the dang thing started rusting while I was sharpening it.
In the end it was about as sharp as stainless mora, but I'll see how long it holds.

I've always had problems with little rust spots on the carbon blades, but I'm also lazy with the maintenance. Frankly I prefer the stainless.
Got those frog legs.

Yeah stainless does have much easier maintenance, but the carbon steel proponents make it sounds like miracle steel, so I thought I'd check it out.
