Very nice :like: but not an original Wave ;) that is a second generation Wave :salute:
Aha probably should’ve researched this better  always good to learn, must admit was going by the fact it isn’t a plus as my only guidance
Glad you like it anyway but will keep it to the BO forum henceforth :salute:

Still very nice in BO.
There are lots of differences, but originals are easy to ID as there are no locks on the handles (for the tools), and the scissors are the old PST type.
Thanks Max as per previous post was ignorant to this but very pleased to learn so thanks for your kind words :tu:

I've owned this knife for over 20 years, bought it when it first came out, but I've always wondered: what is that spike near the base of the medium screwdriver used for (circled in the attached image)?

Thanks for any help!

I has the unusual and rare purpose of snagging on your fingernail when you try to extract the tool from its closed position  :D

And welcome to  :MTO:

Ok, I feel like a bit of an idiot (I used to know that it was a leverage point, but forgot), so thanks for the answer.

It's been sitting in a damp drawer for 5 years, and I thought it was destroyed (rust colored and completely seized up when I found it), but after 24 hours soaking it in WD-40 it was like new!  So I was playing with it late at night (opening and closing those pliers is kind of hypnotic) and suddenly thought "why is that there?...".

It's an awesome pocket knife, best I've ever owned.  And thanks for the welcome to the forums!

Hello all, so I'm new to the forum and I've had my Wave since Feb '99, date codes are 0199 on both handles. It's my EDC for work and can't live without it, so a few months back I broke the tip off one side of the plier head about 3/16 off the tip. I told my wife I think it's time to retire it and maybe pick up a newer model. My wife being as smart as she is was like, does it have a warranty? I'm like yeah I think so I contacted Leatherman but it takes about 2 weeks or so to get it back and I really can't work without it, SO I decided to order a Charge plus TTI as a backup until I get back my baby. I also figured maybe it would suit me better being a newer model with all the upgrades/updates; it must be better, right? So yeah I got my TTI and man I don't know if I just got a lemon or are Leatherman's really not what the used to be?

George.

Welcome to  :MTO:  both of you

If you marked your tool as sentimental you should be ok  :salute: but if not  I hope you get it back :ahhh

Might not hurt to call them again and make sure they send that tool back if they can't fix it :salute:

I'm a proud owner of an original Wave since yesterday  :ahhh

I like to think of it as a mix of a PST and a modern Wave. I love it!

Date codes are 0399 on both handles.

Another package arrived today  :mail:
It was on its way since the 14th of December  ::)

This one is not un-used though. I cannot be that lucky again I guess.

I did...
...re-shape the re-shaped small flat screwdriver
...remove some rust from the pliers
...sharpen the tip of the serrated blade
...clean it up a bit

And now it's ready to go  :tu:

I've planned to carry this one frequently.
Date codes on both handles are 0399 like on the other one I've got last week.

Which brings me to a question:
"At what point did Leatherman change from the initial darker red/brown leather sheath to this lighter brown less quality one?

All the original run leather sheaths were of the better quality  :salute: the sheath you have was one that Leatherman made later for people to buy as a replacement sheath  it was nice but nowhere near the quality of the original  :ahhh :D

Very nice Wave!

I think there are two versions of that light colored sheath. They were sold with the Wave around 99, I have one that I got from a friend back then because he preferred a nylon sheath.

Leatherman also released a sheath like it a couple of years ago. It looks very similar but the stitching and leather aren’t nearly as good.

Incidentally, the original sheath works great for the Victorinox Spirit.

David B. had this one for sale for quite a while and no one picked it up. I've rescued it  :dunno:

Thank you Nitram, that could make sense  :tu:
Because looking at mine here it seems old, stored with the tool inside for quite a while.
And comparing it with pictures of the current one on LM's website the stitching on the back and other tiny details are different

Would you be able to share a picture of your sheath from '99 ?
