Lansky Turn Box.
on: February 01, 2010, 07:02:37 PM
Anyone have any personal experience with these?  I know that this isn't the Lansky system most folks are taking about.  It rather seems to be their answer to the Spydie sharpmaker but a lot cheaper.  Any thoughts?

I think the rod's are smaller than on the Spydie, and there are less options...But for the money I'd have a punt if I didn't already have a Sharpmaker :tu:
Give in, buy several Farmer's!!!!!!

What Mike said :D Would be useful on PE but not so much on serrated :)

Neat little box, should do the job.  I'd have preferred it if the angles were a bit smaller but that's just me.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

That's basically the old "Crock Sticks " . They are OK , but useless on serrations , and less usefull for working points . They also don't have the "back bevel" capability of the Spyderco . I would strongly recomend the Sharpmaker .

It's not just you unfortunately, it's the main thing putting me off TBH. :-\

Thanks for the input chaps (and I'd love any more) but I think for the moment I'll stick to freehand, I'm actually not to bad at it. :)

Most any crock stick setups will work simply because they allow you to maintain a consistent angle without much effort. These would be fine and not too terribly expensive. But the Spyderco has longer rods which is nice.

Now, if you are at all handy, go to ebay and get yourself some ceramic rods (they are pretty inexpensive) and make your own base. A good option if you have more time than money.
