Couldn't resist the Meerkat... seldom have I spent so much on such a tiny blade!

How do you like the phantom lock? Is it too fiddly on such a small knife? Lovely combo!!

No you didn't kill it. This thread is not a high speed thread. Some one might show up after while. Maybe.   :D

Hawkbill blades are excellent at draw cuts (these are the ones your teacher said are dangerous). Hawkbill blades with a plain edge and a one sided bevel are used by gardeners and florists because they allow the cleanest cuts to be made. Serrated hawkbills are favoured by sailors, for ropework, and by less nice people, because they are excellent at cutting someone´s throat from behind. No clean cuts needed there. The Karambit is a good example of such a ´tactical´ knife.

ah, thanks Ronald. tactical doesn't interest me at all, but i spend a lot of time in or on water so cutting ropes etc does.

 ???

I don´t mean to patronize you... As I said, draw cuts are dangerous, it´s very easy to do serious damage to yourself, and more so with serrated blades because these make ragged cuts that do not heal well.

I´m not interested in tactical either. There´s no war going on here, and besides, knives don´t stop bullets and nukes anyway. Where I live, tactical stuff is for fools with too much money. Even the professional military men I know don´t buy it.

yeah i only own one spyderco, a saver salt bought specifically for its rustproofness as i use it on the sea and sometimes don't have time to wash stuff after a day out. I had a stainless sheepfoot type folder but it started rusting. The curved blades caught my eye and i was curious what they're used for. Grant had a bearclaw knife at one stage and i think that was curved too ?

I don´t know about that bear claw, but the Spyderco salt series are nice tools.
