So what is generally regarded as the best incarnation of the great Infinity then ???

To my knowledge there's the following model's. But which one is the best as regarding reliability, water resistance, and battery life?

CMG Infinity
CMG Infinity Ultra
Gerber Infinity Ultra (of which I've got 2, and my son 1)
Gerber Infinity Ultra-M
Gerber Infinity Recon

I love my Infinities, and would be keen to see which is regarded as the best by those in the know :)

I read that the CMG Infiinity had the longest runtime at around 100 hours. But, it puts out only 5 lumens hence the longer runtime. 5 lumens is plenty of light in dark places though. Both Gerbers should be equal at 8 lumens each. I read anywhere from 25 to 60 hours runtime depending on the battery you use. Even if it were only 25 hours runtime its still fantastic for a survival light IMO.

I would like to get a Gerber ultra M and conduct a runtime test myself I read on alkaline battery you get around 72 hours of usable light, on lithium it's much less around 20 hours still not to shabby for a survival/back up light  :tu:

The Gerber Ultra M has a stonger clip & beefier head than the Gerber Infinity Ulta. It puts out 25 hours of peak brightness & then goes to a dimmer mode some call it moon mode. I read that the moon mode is still usable light. I would buy these again in a minute if I ever lost them.

I think Amazon UK has em as they do over here from Amazon. Just in doubt as to whether they are discontinued or the Gerber Ultra M NGV is discontinued. I have the standard light & not the NVG one. I will contact Gerber for clarification on exactly which one is discontinued on Monday & get back with everyone.

Well, I can't really answer your poll.  The CMG is the most durable and water resistant, but the Gerber IU and IU-M are matched for best brightness and runtime.

As  mentioned, the U-M has a very strong clip.  I don't really think the lens on the U-M is going to gain you anything.  In fact, you should lose a very small amount of brightness due to light transmission losses.

Correct NutSak. It seems to loose a small amount of brightness. Side by side testing by me shows the Infinity Ultra to be somewhat brighter with a larger spill beam. There are people that like a lens cover as extra protection for the led. It would also be better for military type use in keeping sand, mud & other gunk off the led bulb.

Well my idea is to leave the Ultra-M in my work bag, where it'll inevitably get knocked about a bit :)

I think you will like the Ultra M as I sure do! It is used for camping mainly & a survival light if things go haywire. It can be EDC'd if you don't mind the extra weight which really is not that big a deal. I think it is a little bulky for pocket carry but, I read some that say it is just fine for pocket carry for them. I guess it depends on how lite you want to go.

Well I pocket carry a regular Infinity, both at home and at work, so there's a better than fair chance it'll be regularly edc'd anyway :)

There you are! If you EDC a standard Infinity, then the Ultra M should work out for you just fine. I prefer a paracord neck carry myself while camping.

I use breakaway paracord connectors. They have them at lighthound 75 cents each. I get my paracord from rotokid shipped free.

Another easy and cheap way to do a breakaway cord is to use ball chain sheathed in paracord.  This is the way I carry my ARC, and it works great.

Well what?  Both the Gerbers use the same driver, so they would be equal.  However, both are brighter and have better runtime than the CMG.

Well... which one has the longest runtime of all? The first quote mentions the CMG Infinity while the second one says it's the Gerber IU-M... :)

Yeah, I see the confusion now.  The CMG Infinity has the longest runtime of all.  However, the Gerbers both run longer an brighter than the CMG Infinity Ultra.  The non-ultra CMG is the dimmest of all, as space cowboy mentioned.

How do they compare with other spill-heavy lights?  Like the Zebralights for example?

They have more of a hotspot than the Zebra, but not much compared to a Luxeon or Cree.  The edge of the spill is also defined more than the Zebra due to the LED being recessed (and protected), but the spill is wide.  Have you seen the hotspot on other 5mm LED lights, such as ARC or Peak?  It is comparable to those.
