  • I'm not all bad, I'm just drawn that way.
Well, it's good to see that several of you are still coming and are obviously all still in love :D

We're still good to go, just been AWOL due to a rather naughty volcano keeping us on the other side of the pond for a while. Photos and tales when I have slept off the jetlag properly and can be arsed!

Good question.  it's all going on the credit card so it's maybe just as easy for folks to pay on the day.  Correct change only please. ;)

Yes I'm not accustom to your funny English notes so I'll be examining them most carefully. :police:

Totally OT but I was a touch surprised when I was handed a £1 note in my change from a corner shop just the other day.  Now we kept the notes far longer than you lot did but I still hadn't seen one for a good long while, turns out that the Royal Bank of Scotland still prints the things, though I imagine in pretty small numbers.

That is surprising.  I wonder how long until they phase out the five pound note with a coin?
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

They do commemorative £5 coins already, I've got one for the anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, but they're dirty great big things (about 1.5" across) that'd never be practical as a general coin.  I can see it happening I suppose but not any time soon I hope.

It'd have to be something size wise similar to the two pound coin but perhaps pentagonal to make differentiation easier.

That sounds like the right idea IMO.

Change of topic again, I was just wondering if Ben would even be old enough to remember £1 notes (somehow I doubt it ::)) then I remembered the coin the disappeared; the half-penny.  No way is Ben going to remember one of those, how about you?  Keep in mind you might be giving away your age. :D

Yes I remember when stuff was priced to the half penny  :-[

There's probably a few 1/2p coins round the house somewhere :)

Now for years I was the kind of guy who'd stoop down to pick up a 1p coin but these days even I have had enough of coppers.  We have a change tray in the living room but all coppers just get dumped in a jar until such time as its full and we can shove them in the change machine at the supermarket.  Their value is so abysmally low that its not worth putting them back in your pocket, I say its time they were ditched and the 5p was the smallest coin or frankly perhaps even the 10p.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

I can remember spending sixpences :) They were worth 2.5 new pence if I remember right, but I'm quite old :D

I actually have a few presentation cases of the decimal coins from when they were first minted in 1971 if anyone's interested in pics. They're quite neat :)

I could happily see the back of copper coins as well, just like you Neil they all get thrown in a box and then dumped in the coin machine at the supermarket.  Even that's more hassle than it's worth really. ::)

I think my brother used to have one of those sets (no 20p IIRC), those coins were BIG compared to the ones we use now.  It's easy to forget and doesn't seem that long ago (might be the better part of 20 years now that I think about it  :o).

I'm not sure what I miss more, the half penny or that you could get 4 mojos for a half penny

So, is everyone set for stuff and things (equipment in grown up speak), lifts from train stations etc or does anyone need anything else? Plenty or room in the van.

Food is still on so if any of you haven't seen and/or replied to this: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,14800.210.html (I'm hoping that links directly to the page relating to free food and babyish dislikes  :D ) please do so so I have a handle on how many sporks will be at the ready.  :tu:

I'm wondering what time we're planning on getting there?  I've got a 6-7 hour drive to get down so I'm not going to be there much before mid afternoon, but what about the rest of you folks?
