I think booing athletes just because they are from a certain nation, who has nothing to do with what one dislike about their country is pretty pathetic. Politics should be kept well away from certain things, this being one of them.

I find myself rooting and cheering for athletes of all kinds of nations.  If I like their stories and their attitude and personality, I cheer them on!

aside from a ceremonial booing of the "bad guys"

I don't root if there is not s US contender, I just like to watch all theses cool sports I never get to see any other time

But the one thing I really hate is how some athletes live in one conutry and play for another, I just don't feel it is in the spirit of the games

Same here.  Each person should be judged on his or her merits.  I think booing is poor form in any sporting event...

Unless you're booing the English rugby team :D

He skiing events have been amazing this year!!!! I was really really sadnto hear about the luge athlete who died...that was so tragic and I think the news people deserve some props for respecting the family enough not to show the footage of the accident.
As for. Point athletes, well, I think it's in poor taste whether it's the Olympics or not but is particularly distasteful during them. The games have been around a long time and while all these athletes want to win for their coutries it takes a trmendous amount of training, grit, personal sacrifice to get to that level. They get nothing but respect from me.
Now those high ideals get tested a bit during the womens world cup...I get anlittle intense then. I respect the athletes but I scream at everyone during that:D

I've got mixed feelings. Glad that a Canadian has finally won gold during Olympics on home soil (3rd time's the charm apparently!) Pissed that neither Eurosport (British with German commercials?) via parabolic antenna and TDP (Spanish Teledeporte) on terrestrial digital seem to be broadcasting any of the daily Hockey games... The TDP digital tv guide says they do, but at 2-4am, I stayed up twice and it was not Hockey... once a documentary about a Spanish athlete at the winter games, and the other time it was TENIS/america's cup sailing... :ahhh :ahhh

I'm also mildly annoyed at a somewhat off colour comment by the British Eurosport commentator during the opening ceremonies... at the point where the VIPs were carrying in the flag, and he said "Bobby Orr -- It's all about Hockey with these Canadians" Can you imagine in 2012 if it was some football hero like George Best (yes I know he's not alive anymore) and a Canadian commentator said "it's all about football with these Brits" While reading this back it doesn't sound bad, but I assure you it was the way he said it... like spitting venom or you could almost see the  ::) as he said it... Thank you captain obvious!

Anyways, been bouncing back and forth between two aforementioned channels, and have been lucky enough to catch a few of the Canadian medals, which is nice. While I'm kinda proving the statement that the commentator made, it would be nice to see SOME of the hockey...

In any case, Go Team Canada Women's Hockey!

We must be watching different news coverage I've seen the crash maybe 10 different times now, on different outlets.  ABC being the worst offender, didn't give a disclaimer the first time.

Well I just watched Amy Williams take gold for Great Britain in the women's Skeleton.  Great result for her and our team. :salute:

I don't think any of the top winter Countries have anything to worry about when it comes to medal counts yet though. :D

Some Aussie sheila won gold in snowboarding.

The news around here isn't so much focused on the fact she won gold, but that somehow she managed to do without smoking, drinking, or getting a root.

Thanks mate. :salute: :D

I'll correct you slightly in that it's our first individual gold in 30 years.  Our women's curling team got a gold in 2002 I believe.

We're definitely not a winter Olympic country that's for sure.  However we more than hold our own in the summer Olympics. :D

Canada is still in it, but now the Americans have a bye in the next round.  Big upset for sure!

Still waiting for the Russians to get 40 medals like they said. :D
