A newly discovered fellow gadget freak
on: February 17, 2010, 03:23:31 AM
While at training today I noticed a folding knife on another members vest.  I immediately could tell this was no cheap knife (like I carry) so I snatched it from him (I know him well enough to do this).  I look at the blade and see its a Hinderer knife!!  It was beautiful and was the smoothest opening knife I have ever played with.  We were both a little amazed that we knew high quality knives, he didn't know anyone that had even heard of Hinderer.  Then he tells me he has a Sebenza at home.  So I asked if he recognized this....as I pulled out my Mini Plus Prybaby.  He said "An ATWOOD" and tells me he is looking for one, at a reasonable....non-ebay price.  I told him of  this sight and told him I would watch for one.  To be honest this is the first time I ran into an EDC gadget-type guy in person.  So if any of you are looking to get rid of an Atwood (yeah right) I would love to help this guy out.

I have run into a few , both on the street and at shows . I've also created a few ,my former apprentice , is sporting some fancy hardware and torches , as is a good friend .A guy I subcontract for and his numberone boy are also Sufire and Spyderco geeks . If you go to Gunshows , and shows that feature custom knifemakers , you meet people addicted to fine toys .

Show him this pic:

:D

Rick is actually a really great guy- Bob and I talked to him a couple of years ago at SHOT, although at the time he didn't know who we were, as Multitool.org was a pretty much brand new site.  I'm still looking for a good deal on one of the Gerber Hinderer Rescue knives, but I've yet to come across a used one at a reasonably price in decent shape, so my guess is that it has to be a pretty good quality piece!

Always good to meet another knife/tool guy in the flesh though!

Never met another tool nut like me.

But as an electrician, I get to work jobs with a lot of trades, and alot of them use super cheap knives and tools.  There is one plumber though in town that's kind of a flashlight nut and we talk about them whenever we get together and show off our latest aquisitions.  He's more into the cheap kind and is always stunned when I give the answer to his usual "So....how much did that cost?"
