Being an ex military police I can't even imagine losing your weapon.

When I was working nuclear security in German we had "alibia rounds" whenever we went to the range
we would pick up extra .45 and 5.56 rounds.

During the course of exchanging magazines at the end of a shift we were suppose to count all the rounds before
we left but since we all were friends (for the most part) and brothers we never did.

So when you got back to your room you would throw your gear on the bed and out would pop a round that fell out of a mag.

Going to the phone you would call your buddy that is now short a round he would go to his bag and get out an "alibia round".
