MagnaSURGE
on: December 23, 2009, 07:32:07 PM
This morning I was fidgeting with my Surge for the first time in a while, and I noticed something strange. At some point it became magnetized  :o I don't know how long ago it happened or how, but apparently at some point over the last couple years I managed to magnetize the whole damn thing and didn't notice it till now. It's very very weak mind you, barely enough to hold a paper clip in fact, but kinda cool nonetheless. Just one more bit of "character" to show what kind of Hell it's been through  :D

I've got a couple tools like that, most notably my Crunch. It's a real PITA actually, as if I'm restoring some old PST or something, all the filings and bits get clogged up in it.

Good for retrieving small screws etc though.
I used to come here a lot.

Actually now that I think about it I do know how it happened. A while back I had a couple extra rather strong magnets in my pocket from a project at work. Those same magnets blanked out my debit card. Pretty sure that's what "charged" my surge. Yeah I can see how it could be a problem with metal filings etc. Didn't even think about that. Not to big a deal though since the SURGE is just about retired now. I normally carry my Spirit these days, and I want to get a Swisstool X to take the Surge's place as my heavy duty tool. The MagnaSurge will probably be passed down to my little brother or something where it'll either get lost after a week like the Charge I gave him, or never really be used much at all.

You can get one of these magnetize to demagnetize things at hardware stores for like 3 bucks. Should fix it up for ya.

Oh I know you can. I don't mind it being magnetic. I was just sorta like WTF  ??? when I noticed it. I'm actually a bit sad that I figured out how it happened. I liked it better when I had no idea and it was all mysterious like.

I think Magneto carried a Surge due to its magnetic qualities.

Nah, I'm pretty sure a Surge is what they are using these days to keep him chained down. Since plexiglass didn't work, they decided it was best to just weigh him down so much that he can't walk.

Or put it on the demagnetizer at a department store that they use to deactivate the security tags.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

If you used a strong enough magnet it would stay that way a good long time.

My Charge is magnetized.  No idea how it happened.
