Mexico
on: February 14, 2010, 10:38:34 PM
I'm in Mexico for the week.

Here's a pic of today's lunch--Nachos El Pastor.  It was yummy, but would have been better with a cerveza:

The tools I brought with me:

Leatherman Pulse in sheath
Victorinox CT41 in sheath
Victorinox Huntsman w/stayglow scales
Kershaw Leek
Quark MiNi AA NW
Quark AA^2 Tactical Neutral
Fenix E01

The most used tool so far (by a long shot): the package hook on the Huntsman.  This is the first time I've used it for it's intended purpose, and it worked great to help carry the groceries.

Bob, I bet not as much as Mr. Whippy.

I haven't seen honest to goodness glass coke bottles in ages.
A little Leatherman information.

So whats the problem doesn't Cerveza flow more readily down there than pop?  ;)  Enjoy your stay
btw whereabouts are you located?  They have a great Victorinox shop in Puerto Vallarta.

The Cerveza wasn't readily available near that food stand, unfortunately.  I had several later.  :drink:

Yes, they're good 'ol glass Coke bottles, and the Coke here still contains sugar.  So, this is the "true" original recipe Coke, not Coke Classic, which contains corn syrup.

I can still buy the same thing at home, but I have to go to a Mexican grocery to do so.  They can also be found at "kosher" stores in the states at times.

I'm surprised you brought that many knives and tools with all the crap going on at airline security, I'd probably make do with one SAK for fear of getting them plifered out of my luggage, or get bothered by mexican cop (heard bad stories about that).

I haven't seen honest to goodness glass coke bottles in ages.

They seem to be making a bit of a come back here atm. Mostly in cafes and bars rather than shops.

Coke definitely tastes better from a proper bottle though doesn't it?
I used to come here a lot.

No problems at all.  I even had a random check at customs in Merida.  They looked through all my bags and checked me through A-OK.  There's not much trouble with police here in Merida.  Everyone here seems very polite and laid back.  The Yucatan is a great place to visit, but my advice is to stay away from Cancun.

I'm in a different world here.  It's mostly Yucatecan cuisine here, so that will probably not be easy to find.

I think my local Sainsbury's had them in not long ago, I might have to pick some up next time I'm in. :)

Nice tool list BTW Terry. I'm looking forward to some more pics though (women  :pok:).  :D

You guys are going to be disappointed, I'm afraid....  The weather has been cool here--too cool to even spend a moment on the beach.  I've been visiting the ruins and cenotes instead.

The local ladies have been bundled-up like Eskimos this week.  I'm wearing short sleeves and sandals, and they act like they're back home in Missouri.  The 70-75 degree weather sure beats 25-30 at home!!

Yeah, that's really more why I'm here--that and the Carnival festivities.  We toured Uxmal today, and did Chichen Itza on Tuesday.  I have plenty of pics from those to post here, but I'll probably wait until  I get back on Monday.

Supposedly there will be freezing rain waiting for me when I get home.  ::)

Oh, fresh seafood! I've been in Tampico, Veracruz and Coatzacoalcos all along that part of the coast and the seafood (mariscos) there is tasty!  :tu:

Yes, the seafood, chicken and pork were VERY good.

I'm home now--I got in about 2:30 am this morning.  No problems to report with any tools going through customs.  One guy did look over my wife's LD01 SS and my Quark MiNi-AA very closely.  After we explained they were just lights, there were no issues.

I will post more pics as time allows....
