Terrible.   >:(

This is one reason that I refuse to put alkaline batteries in my lights unless it's an emergency.

It' supposed to be a family light. 3 new Sanyo alkalines (AAAs) have been there for more  than a month. The only consolation is that it is a cheap police flashlight.

I recently bought 8 Ray-O-Vac D-cell alkalines for use in a wireless outdoor speaker.  They sat on the shelf for about 1 month and, when I went to use them, I noticed three of them had leaked inside the package.  You just can't trust alkalines to not leak.  I was glad that I had not put them in the speaker immediately after I purchased them.

That sucks mate. :(  I will say though that I haven't had an alkaline battery leak in years.  To the point that I don't even consider it as an issue.  Perhaps I've just been lucky but I really though that it was a trouble of the past.

I have had Energizers & Rayovacs leak within the past month. I read that cleaning the mess with vinagar works if its not real bad leakage. Worked ok on my slightly leaked cells.

Man that sucks!

At least it was in a budget light.

It's because of stuff like this happening to god knows how many things around the house and at work that I never use Alkalines.

My experience has shown D cells to be the worst.  I can understand the AAA package might be harder to seal reliably in manufacturing, though.

Well for what it's worth, I've just took the last of my Alkies to be recycled rather than run the risk of using them, thanks to this thread :tu:

My alkalines only leaked when they tested low on my battery meter under load I might add. I would not trust them in an expensive light. When they get low just dump em or you will be sorry. JMO.

A leaking alkaline Energizer AA did this to my first light, a Mini Maglite. When i checked the voltage of that leaking battery it was still 1.0V. I thoroughly cleaned the inside of body tube with warm water and soap using an old toothbrush. My Mini Maglite is still in good operating condition until now.

Actually years ago I spoke to customer service at Mag Lite and they told me that if your batteries leak
send it to them and they will fix it and then bill the battery company.

Seems they have a standing deal with Energizers, Duracell and Ray o Vac.   Well at least they did a few years ago. ;)

I have been very lucky and never had a leaky alkaline but like most of you guys my torches are now run on lithiums or rechargeables
