crazy artifact deal
on: February 22, 2010, 12:14:39 AM
So I thought you all might enjoy some of the drama I am experiencing in my attempt to make some cash for MT. I have a artifact collection that has been sitting in my basement for years. I came across a Craigslist posting of a man wanting to buy collections. I emailed the man with the photos, and began researching what I should expect to get for my collection. I did my research primarily on one sight, and decided to send the photos to the owner of the sight. The craigslist guy told me what he thought it was worth, and it was much lower than the expert. Next thing I now I am engaged in a bidding war that I was not prepared for. It is out of control. The expert is making arrangements for family members in my area to put cash in hand. Any advice?

Wish List: Sideclip, Pulse, Flair, Super tools, Charge SLV, 25th Anniversary WAVE

I would contact both guys and have each one make an offer, and take whichever one seemed the best to me- either highest dollar or highest dollar/least hassle or similar.  I doubt I would have them bid against eachother, but then, that's just the way I do business.  If each one knows there's another interested party, they should make reasonable offers rather than try to lowball you, which I'd expect either of them to do individually.

Failing that, I'd have another expert who has no interest in the collection set a fair price and see if either of the others are interested in meeting it.

Sounds very wise. I appreciate it. Never thought the world of artifacts was so shady. >:D

I'd go with the expert over the mysterious Craigslist guy.  What kind of artifacts are they?

No problem, glad I could help.

And, remember, anytime there is something of value, there will be someone who wants to take it from you- it's Yin and Yang.  Nothing can rise up without casting a shadow.

It's kind of a pessimistic outlook I know, but I've been dealing with the wrong side of humanity for about 15 years now, and I'm always careful when it comes to anything of value and people I don't know.
