Quarterdeck eh?  I'll have to look into that one.  Lots of sailing/Naval type books written about the last 200 (or so) years will include references to Nova Scotia as this is one of the most popular ports in the world.  I believe it's the largest natural port in the world, or at least one of.  I read lots of biographies of famous or interesting people and whenever the topic of sailing comes up, there's almost always a reference to Nova Scotia.  It's kind of funny since I always think of Nova Scotia as kind of a backwater section of Canada, and yet this is where everyone comes!

There was a movie about a doomed Russian submarine a few years ago. starring Harrison Ford- I can't think of the name off the top of my head, but all the scenes in port and on the ocean were shot within a mile of my house in Halifax Harbour.

There's also a book written about one of Kim's great grandmothers (or something like that) whose husband was at sea.  I can't think of the title either (and neither can she!) but it's just another example of the number of books written about or around this place.

One of my favorite books is Neil Stephenson's "Cryptonomicon". One of the better books I've read in years and I highly recommend it. It's story occurs in both now and WWII. I just got done with his "The Baroque Cycle" series which was very good but like an inexperienced hooker, could'a finished better. >:D  I just started Dean Koontz's "The Good Guy". So far, pretty good. Few months back I read a couple of Rush Limbaugh's books. I get months where I don't have the time or impetus to read, others I can go thru books like Grant thru Richmond. ;)  I'm going to check out these books you guys are mentioning.... always looking for new stuff.

You and me both.  I am still working my way through the biography of Randy Bachman from The Guess Who and Bachman Turner Overdrive, although those references may be too old for some of our younger foreign members! :P

I've also got a couple other bios that my wife picked up for me- Billy Crystal (not too excited about that one) and Michael J. Fox, which I am looking forward to.  She also got me the novel that the movie Sideways was based on.  I haven't seen the movie, but I'm also looking forward to that book, being something of a wine connaiseur myself.

Currently I am reading "An Inconvenient Book" by Glenn Beck.  It is a pretty good book if you lean toward the right wing movment.  If you are a lefty, it is still good reading if you like being angry. :)

I'm currently reading "The Almost Moon" by Alice Sebold.  Her last book "The Lovely Bones" was amazing.  I haven't gotten into this one as much.  It's about a woman who murders her elderly mother.

Although they are probably meant for kids in their mid-teenage years, I enjoy all of Eoin (Pronounced "Owen) Colfer's books.
I also like Holly Black, Rob MacGregor, and Max McCoy.

I also enjoy Tom Clancy, but those books are long.
The book I'm reading now by him is this thick-

|                                                                |

Sometimes it's hard for me to remember what author's are good and bad because, besides reading 5+ books at a time, I'm also writing that many.

Just finished readin John Grisham's "The Partner". His books usually make me think  :-\ , but every once in a while I get in the right mood for one. This one was pretty good, with the traditional ending twist...

Haha... sometimes I guess I try to read peoples posts too fast.  At first I thought you had said you were reading "An Inconvenient Truth" (by Al Gore)

I'm glad I went back and actually read what you posted... because we were about to have some problems in here :)

I've had that DVD for about six months now... I don't think it's even been unwrapped yet.

Not that I have any differences with his opinions, just I can't stand another gloom and doom "world coming to an end" thing.

I don't know about READ, but I am currently listening to "Slaughterhouse Five" by Kurt Vonnegut.

Great stuff, it's hard to believe that he used the same 26 letters that we do! :ahhh

Just finished reading this one: DMZ Vol. 3

So far it's been a good read with stellar artwork. This third volume has really ramped up the political violence and has raised some pretty hairy questions about terrorism seldom seen in this medium.

After that I'm moving down my books recieved for Christmas and have this one next: The Dangerous Book for Boys

Looks to be pretty cool, I'll have to dig out my old Batman flashlight and read it under the covers after bedtime to get the full effect.

I'm about 10 years late, but I recently bought the entire Preacher comic collection (with all the one shots) off ebay a while back...and it just shipped yesterday ::)

I really liked Ennis' run with The Punisher (which is coming to an end after the next issue :-[ ), so I figured I'd start tracking down various issues/small lots of the Preacher series.  After I saw the whole shebang on ebay I bit the bullet and got them all for about $170 shipped.

So I will be reading this series starting hopefully tomorrow.

I reckon I'll throw my taste in books here. I sometimes like to read Biblical prophecy books. Some make some sense and seriously make me consider them and how they seem to mix modern events with prophecy. Others are just a little too far fetched. One I read stated that Hitler would rise from the dead, apologize to the Jews for WWII and convince the world to follow him. Of course he turns out to be the anti-Christ.

Like I said, some of them are a little far fetched but they're interesting to read anyway. But I rarely get time to read much anyway. I try to read a little of the Bible everyday but with a 3 year old ANY personal time is rare.

I've studied bible prophecy for a few years now and it's a seriously interesting topic.  Do you have any favorites?

As far as "fun to read" it was the one about Hitler, I can't remember the name of it. In fact I don't recall the name of any of them. There's a little book store near me that has used books. I'll go buy one, read it and exchange it for another one. I THINK I have a couple around the house somewhere, I'll go look for them later.
