Too much titanium?
on: February 28, 2010, 09:28:41 PM
Can one have too many Titanium Charges?

I've acquired most of these over the last 6 months between Ebay purchases and trades.

I have a mix of TTi, Ti and Xti and I love them all except the XTi but I dont have an extra set of scissors to mod it and get rid of the extra bit driver.  I recently got the camo one from a forum member, and I had no idea how taken with it I would be when I got it.  I don't care for BO finish at all but for some reason the camo finish is awesome.

Anyway here is a glamor shot:

(but i see no black oxide version :D)

I had a few black oxide tools a while back and I just don't care for them. Daily wear on a stainless tool looks fine to me.  It's just a sign of good solid use.  Daily wear on a Black Oxide tool just looks rough to me, the scratched portions where steels shows through are in stark contrast with the BO finish.  Now if they made a  BO finish I could replenish I might change my mind.

To me black oxide would be useful if I were doing covert night missions, or on daytime missions when the flash of the sun on steel might get me shot. life is much for mundane than that so I'll stick with stainless.

I like the Black Oxide versions the best.

I really don't care about scratches on a  tool.  Not any different than a screwdriver or hammer to me.

Nice collection of titanium!

Nice to hear that I'm not the only one who isn't a fan of the XTi.  It was my first Charge model, and I was so unimpressed I was tempted to take it back to Canadian Tire and get my money back- before I even left the parking lot!  I'm glad I didn't, as they were discontinued an hour or so later, and so it has value to me from a collectible standpoint!  My next few Charges were ALX models (including the Multitool.org ALX Charges) and I still wasn't thrilled, but I knew the Ti/SLV configurations were of significant more interest to me so I held tight and eventually got one of each.  Now the only Charge models I don't have are the TTi and AL, and of course I am missing a bunch of color variants, but I doubt I'll get that much into them as they's pricey buggers!

Crouton, I only have 5 Titaniums at the moment. The older Titanium models are rare up North, and rarely come up on eBay.CA. I am still searching for the older camo models to no avail...yet. :D

A Charge TTi, XTI, Ti, and the two Camo Charges.

Def, if you ever make another Charge MT.Org run...I will be front and center.  :pok: :pok:

For me the downside to the XTi is the redundant bit drivers.  I don't like giving up the scissors for a bit driver that holds a bit that can be carried in a bit card anyway.

Agreed.  I only need one bit driver. I don't care about a scissors (never used one on a multi-tool), but I do like the dedicated flat screwdriver that I can really bear down on if need be.

I only have one Charge and it's a BO Ti, in similar shape to Vikings' Charge above! I don't mind it looking battered up either as it's a user and one of my favourite EDC choices :)

I'm still lacking the Charge in my collection because I fear the cap crimper and not keen on aluminum handles.
