Shirt Pocket Screwdriver
on: July 07, 2007, 01:51:16 AM
Forgive me if this tool has been discussed here before.

Someone (can't remember who or on what forum) was inquiring after a shirt pocket screwdriver that won't punch holes in the old shirt pocket.

This: http://www.countycomm.com/1x4driver.htm
might work.

Even if it doesn't, it looks decent for its price.

That looks pretty cool- do you have one?  If so, what do you think of it?

I usually have a SAK and a multitool on me, plus another small SAK or multi on my keys, and a Swisscard in my PDA case, so I'm usually set for screwdrivers, but that looks like it might be handy to keep in my camera bag.

No I don't, but for 3 bucks I plan to have one.

I'll tack one on to my next order from County Comm.  County Comm is always coming up with neat, inexpensive, hard-to-resist items like this.

I bought a similar one for about $2 at Home Depot.  The bits aren't completely metal like the Countycomm one...it's a plastic 'hex' part with metal bits on each end.  With tiny screws it's designed for, you shoulden't need enough torque to break it.

Here it is:

The other day I went to Home Depot, and I saw a multitool that looked pretty decent, but it had a bit driver, and it came with 5 sleeves of bits. It was Chinese, but 15 dollars. In the end I decided against it, in favor of a razor/straight edge combo for work. I've still got my eye on it though.

$15 plus a serious set of bits?  Heck I'd have had a hard time not grabbing it too!

They all look great.

Too bad the only thing I have that would require such small drivers on my phone, and the lady at the shop says she's not going to fudge warranty claims for me any more.

but with an apex (magnet bit holder) if it fits in it, then you could have/use all kinds of bits!
judge others by how they treat those they are allowed to mistreat

I have one as well, and I've seen several different models.  Mine is just cheapo China brand that I got as an impulse buy at my hardware store for $1. The stanley one probably has the best build quality though.  Either way, this tool definately can be a great carry, I just leave it in my toolbox but it comes in handy.

I bought the General pocket screwdriver at Home Depot about two weeks ago! It is decent quality, I'd like to buy one of the Stanley ones though!  :)

Commando makes several different models.  I have a pocket screwdriver, drill, and file set.  But, you also pay for that 'Made in USA', of around $15 to $20 each.  I bought mine a couple of years ago at Radio Shack, but you can find 'em elsewhere with google.
