sorry if this thread doesn't belong exactly in this area. I've just seen this fraudulent auction for an alleged Victorinox Swiss army knife on german ebay. Anyone can see that this is actually a CAK, but for authenticity they have given a picture of a victorinox box. (the german text basically says 'Victorinox swiss army knife from a deceased estate' and then sets out its rights - private sale, no returns etc)http://cgi.ebay.de/Victorinox-Schweizer-Taschenmesser13Funkt-Nachlass-/260624688601?cmd=ViewItem&pt=DE_Sport_Camping_Outdoor_Campingmesser_werkzeug&hash=item3cae7125d9Is there anything I can do here as a responsible SAK collector to prevent someone getting ripped off? I was thinking of asking the seller to put a picture of the front shield on there too. Or just telling them that it is not really a victorinox. But I don't know.
I would first tell the seller it is not a real sak. Looking at his/her profile and the few other items he/she has for sale, I don't think it is intentional. Tell him if the main blade does not have a Victorinox stamp on it, it is not a Victorinox and he could make a collector very upset if he sold it as one. good luck
they're everywhere - ebay's locust plague. The seller got back to me and thanked me for the info, and has conscientiously changed the ad, so my initial assumption of 'fraudulent' was probably a bit mean - it initially seemed wierd that the shield was hidden, and the victorinox box was presented as evidence for the brand. Anyway, just a misunderstanding I guess.
they haven't changed the headline, (this might be impossible without relisting the item?), but the large text added at the bottom makes it clear that it is not a Victorinox, and that such a knife would have a victorinox tang stamp, and thanking the conscientious ebayer for the correction. I wish them luck ...selling that piece of crap
