Hi,

New poster to Multitool.  Been here for a few months.

I looked at the pics and if you fold the pliers around into the handle and try to fold the bit driver around also (about either one of the two rivets) it just won't fit with a bit in place.  I don't even think it will fit without the bit.  SOmeone with photoshop can verify that.

Good to see you taking the plunge and posting!

I don't know- I'm still not convinced about it.  I suppose I could cheat and ask my contact at Leatherman to provide more details, but we're having so much fun discussing it, I'd hate to put an end to it!

Interestingly Doug Ritter said it folded but it doesn't look like it. If it did why make it fit inside the carbiner? I say ask Leatherman. ;D

I got a response from my contact today, and apparently the screwdriver does not fold, so it looks like Doug Ritter and I are both having crow for dinner tonight!

Any truth to the rumor that an image of Skeletor will be laser etched into the handle and a sound chip will cackle his evil laugh whenever you open the pliers?  :P

laser etched ACME.

They are having some quality control issues with that one.  All the test subjects either fall of a cliff or accidentally launched from a giant slingshot.

Well if the bit driver doesn't fold, then the only way to use it is with the Skeletool in the "stretched" position.

No more so than any other tool I'd guess, but it is worth noting at any rate.

Yup.

Well anyhow, I'm still anxious to try one these darn things out. I'm going to try keeping track a little better, but I'll bet pliers, a knife, and screwdrivers make up over 90% of what I use a multitool for. Packaging those three features into as light a tool as possible makes a lot of sense to me.

I'm definately still interested in the tool.  I'm curious now how both bits are stored in the tool?  I wouldn't want to carry it around with one of the bits in all the time...

You can see the other bit in the handle with the caribiner.  It looks like it is tucked in there somehow.  Maybe its magnetic.  Looks hard to pull out if it is wedged in there.

My big concern about the bit driver being open like that is the small spring that holds it in place is not the greatest.  I have had a few LM's right out of the package with springs that wouldn't hold the bit in.  In fact, I almost lost the small eyeglass bit from my Surge due to a faulty spring the very first day I had it.

Admittedly it's a simple thing to fix, assuming you are aware of the problem while you still have the bit to begin with.  I only managed to save the bit I had because it was inside the tool when it fell out and stayed inside until I opened it again to see what the rattling was.

That's more than any of the other tools hold... except for the XTi and ALX that is.

Good versatility- two bits means four heads.

Wouldn't keeping one in the bit holder make it easy to fall out and get lost?

If you look at the carabiner, there apears to be a strip atached to the front to clip the strap. If the piece was bent inside the frame of the carabiner it could be made long enough to stop the bit dropping out.

I still don't like it.  If you clip the tool onto something, wouldn't you run the risk of it opening up and exposing the bit enough for it to pop out?  I think I'd really prefer for both bits to be stored inside the tool.  Also, I sometimes wrap my hand around the end of the pliers when I'm using them, to get a bit stronger grip.  I don't think I'll be able to do that with the Skeletool unless I take the bit out, then I'm sure to lose it :)

My bet is that you are gonna have to carry one bit in the holder and the second one in the handle.  They're probably betting that the spring will hold up.   ::)  Hopefully they guarantee against losing bits cuz the spring fails.

I doubt that.  They don't warranty against loss, and they sell replacement bit kits so maybe they tell the QC guys to "go easy" on these ones!  >:D
