Burnt down old house
on: March 06, 2010, 01:24:02 AM
If it's just an old house, it wouldn't so interesting. But this isn't just any old house, it's literally a few hundred square yards of wilderness in the middle of the suburban sprawl. To the north is blocks of luxury mansions (easily multi million $, each house is probably the size of a condo building), you can see the roofs in the first pic. To the west is where I live, to the south is batches of condo, and to the east is a mega mall. Quite interesting how it's left alone in the middle of all that.

The house as I drove up to it from the dirt road, typical two story.

There's an attached room to the right, seems was built later since it's made of wood instead of stone, and structure is independent of the stone house. You can also see the exterior entrance to the cellar.

Looking left from the front door, a fireplace, hmm...

Looking to the right, you can see the door to the wooden room, a big hole in the floor, and yet another fireplace...

The said hole, not sure if it's the cellar entrance or just collapsed floor.

Looking back from the door to the wooden room.

The wooden room, or what's left of it. It also has a cellar, which is independent of the main one. The collapsed floor blocks exterior entrance to the cellar.

The wall, looks kinda pretty actually.

Looking into the cellar, there's a back room, the hole/entrance is to the right.

Look to the left, firewood storage, flashlight isn't bright enough. :(

Left of back room.

Right of back room, kids probably hauled the car seat there for parties.

Circling to back of house.

And there's an old rusty wood stove in the backyard. Two fireplaces and a woodstove, in a burnt down house, hmm...

Afraid not, it's been like that ever since I moved here. Which is what makes it strange, all the land around it has been bought and built on, even a strip of land sandwiched by two railroads, and this house is no more than two or three hundred yards away from any of them, but this has been left alone all these years.

Nice that you snapped so many pictures. It will probably be only a matter of time until they bulldoze it all and build more condos. :-\

You know, that's quite possible. Housing development is crazy around here, it slowed down due to economy but picking up speed again. The number of houses probably doubled in past few years.

If it doesn't I'll report back with new photos in a few years.  :D
