Oh yeah...  I have a Motofone too.  I use it when I'm going to be away from civilization for at least a couple of days.

I have a Samsung Tocco Lite (s5230)
(Image removed from quote.)
In general I'm happy, wish there were more "widgets" to use with it and it was a bit more open ended.

Iphones look great, but I end up wishing they were more open ended and had some of the features of the fake Iphones on the market like removable microSD cards, dual sims, etc.

Google's Nexus one looks more like what I want, but still like the Iphone at a price I can't yet afford/justify yet. I refuse to pay more for a phone than I did for my computer!

Hi Whoey,

Would you recommend the Tocco Lite?

I'm thinking about getting a pink one for Mrs. Cerbera :D She's not geeky as me so all she would really require to be good is call, text, camera & mp3 player :)
And of course prettyness; this phone does look good  :tu:

I'm happy with it in general, however I do wish they would make a standard headphone jack rather than custom, cause the stock headphones don't stay in my ears very well, so I stopped using it as an MP3 player. It also has a radio, but required the headphones to be plugged in for it to work... As an MP3 player, it works ok, I find it a bit frustrating to queue files, but I think you can make playlists which makes it easier. The camera is ok... I have posted some pics from it on the forums in the past, and it's hard to tell they're phone camera pics... I find it to be a generally easy phone to use, and I love the touch screen, coming from a Samsung Slide phone, and before that a Motorola v360 clamshell. Battery life talk/standby is pretty good. Having a touch screen is great for texting as you can turn the phone sideways (it has accelerometers or whatever the hell they're called) and you get a full keyboard. I takes microSD cards, and I currently have a 2gb card, which allows me to have at least about 10 full mp3 albums, plus a bit of spare space for photos if needed, the internal memory is decent, but not enough to have more than a couple MP3s. The only drawback is you cannot hotswap the microSD card as it's behind the battery. Bluetooth file transfer works well, even via my linux desktop with no additional software.

There are some pics I took with my phone (reduced in size) here: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,13200.0.html

Bottom line: would I buy it again? probably yes, however, like I mentioned there's a couple things that could be slightly better, but so far this is my 4th mobile I've owned... I find there's a couple things I personally would like that are only included in the higher models of this range (GPS was one of those things...) Again, I'm very happy with the value for money on this model. I paid 60eur plus points with my phone provider when I got it. The microSD card I had from my previous phone, and I bought it apart, this phone came without.

Is that enough info to make a decision?

That's great Whoey, thank you for your review  :salute:

Those pics look pretty good  :tu: I totally agree with the 2.5mm jack; generally the earphones supplied are really uncomfortable  ::)
I got one of these for £1 in TK Maxx, it has a built in mic so it can be used as hands free :D

Think I'll go ahead and order one. Wedding Anniversary coming up and she does need something reliable and fashionable :D

Thanks again

funny thing, the jack (not 2.5mm, it's some flat proprietary thing) on the new phone is the same as my old one, however, the radio doesnt work with the old headphones even though they are Samsung as well, not that I actually listen to the radio...

I suppose I could invest in some bluetooth in-ear headphones, but they're damn pricey. I think the stock headphones also work as handsfree. I've rarely seen anyone actually with free hands as they always tend to continue to hold either the phone in one hand or the mic closer to their mouth...  ::) ::)

My Nokia has the 2.5mm jack which at least allows the adaptor.

I use the earphones if I'm on a long conference call. Allows me to multi task, i.e. work on my post count here lol.

that'd be cool, I see they have them on ebay.co.uk too... although the same problem there too... it's deemed an electronic component and they won't ship it outside the UK... :( I never thought to look for one online, I did think about how they surely must exist, but only ever looked on the Samsung page.

When I switched to AT&T I was excited about getting a blackberry.  I love the smartphone and used it for everything.  However, when i got there, for the basic Blackberry Curve (I hated the Pearl) it would have cost me WAY too much money even with a brand new contract.  I got the Iphone for 1/3 of the cost of the blackberry.  At first I was dead set against it...I thought owning an Iphone made me pretentious and yuppy.  Au contraire!!!  I love it now.  It's still way smarter than I am and I haven't figure out all of the little ins and outs or just what it is capable of but I never drop calls, I can hear the ringer, and it's a lot sturdier than I thought it was.  Plus it's fun to experiment with cases for it.  My fave right now is the Speck Candyshell with a Zagg Invisible Shield for the screen.  It's pretty simple to use too.  The only thing I wish it had was a voice dialing option.  supposedly there is an app for that, but I haven't heard real great reviews for it.  We'll see.  I also wish that it would multitask a little better.  I don't know the technical term for it, but being able to switch between certain apps without hitting the home button would be nice.  I love it.

No Verizon here. That's why I'm asking if it does triple- or quad-band... ;)

I found one on ebay too http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Headphone-Adapter-for-SAMSUNG-S5230-Tocco-Lite-S5230w_W0QQitemZ140387143869QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxq20100303?IMSfp=TL100303192001r23263

bleh... dual mono. Stock headphones are stereo, tested with an mp3 that alternates speakers at the start of the song, using the adapter and my normal 3.5mm jack headphones it's mono (same on both headphones...)  :ahhh

That's terrible.  I use a $.99 3.5mm headphone adapter with my Impression, and it's stereo.

BTW, I put Opera Mini 5 on mine over the weekend, and it makes the standard browser look like a real POS.  Actually, it doesn't just look like one--it feels like one and even smells like one.  So it must be one.

it is "stereo" it's just that you don't hear the difference as any audio panning is non existent.

Used it for the walk in to class today, think I'd prefer to load up a 2gb SD card and use my PDA as a walkman...

Yeah, I don't mind using my phone as a player but, since I can't charge the phone while I'm listening, I always have my Sansa as a backup.  The proprietary connector is the thing I really dislike about my Impression.

good lord man...

I recently updated my PDA from WM5 to WM6.5 and thus WMP10, I just found a wmp10 skin that emulates an iPod, and loaded a bunch of tunes on my SD card... sounds bloody great... 3x louder than the phone at max volume... guess I should have tried this first...altho the PDA is 3x the size of my phone :<
