Knife making
on: March 07, 2010, 08:00:29 PM

I am sure somewhere on this site I have read about a guy that makes
knives from old files, Anyone else seen it please?

I'm playing in the garage again

Next question, anyone know where I can get my finished blade
tempered/hardened?

Thanks :salute:

Place your old file in your oven at 550 degrees Fahrenheit for one hour

I wonder if my oven will do that?  :twak:

Neil,
No I killed my belt sander a few weeks ago because of this
site >:( (new one coming)  ::)

I was a bit miffed as my sander was 80ish quid
but I did have it strapped down with a jig holding some metal in place on the belt  ::)
I then left it going  ....things were going fine  :ahhh  :ahhh

so to cheer myself up I got a nice wetstone grinder  :tu:

Hey! 19 quid???  :twak: :twak: :twak:

Looking good Sparky. :tu:

A touch of trivia; in the film of "Gangs of New York" Daniel Day-Lewis's character Bill 'the Butcher' was clearly using forged file knives, you could still see the cross-hatching on the flats of the blades.

Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

do with a couple of cheerleaders',
I was thinking more along the lines of Pamela Anderson  >:D
