was there ever a gunmetal blue pioneer?
Gunmetal like the Cadet? No...take a look ...
http://www.aloxworld.com/AloxWorld/Victorinox-Alox-Pioneer.html
http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Victorinox+Pioneer

So are there different black anodized color versions?
The Pioneer in these 2 images is clearly not the same black as the rest

I do not have a number for the knife, it was part of a set with a watch and a pioneer
the set has a number, but not the knife.

this is what the description of the set says:
This OFFICER'S watch will be delivered in a special packaging with an exclusive pocket knife matching with the dial color and pattern of the OFFICER'S timepiece.
Item Number with assorted knife: 241546.1
(copied from the Victorinox website)

Also on the site it is stated the dial is dark grey.
http://www.victorinox.com/ch/product/Timepieces/Category/Collections/Officer-s/Officer-39-s-Day-Date-Mechanical/241546

So, the knife is matching, and is dark grey?

Holy thread necro batman! Has anyone determined if the plain cross gold alox Pioneer was a special run? It looks as if the plain cross model was made at least some point after the +PAT was dropped from the can opener. At least one model was paired with matching brass liners.

This is also an awesome thread that needs more visibility, imo.

Hello. An acquaintance bought this Pioneer and is concerned about the main blade's alignment. He thinks because it's not centred, it must be defective. I said I think it's normal, given the awl next to it.

Should he be concerned? Can I see your Pioneers?

That's absolutely normal. I'm surprised your acquaintance doesn't realise that if it was straight it would bash into the awl and wouldn't close properly.  :D

Superb Swiss engineering!

It's called "crinking" and is done on purpose to fit all tools in a smaller package.
In fact it's done so precise that it shouldn't be noticeable when the blade is opened.

Extremely helpful, Nick! Thank you  :tu:

I did ask him if there is any scratch on the blade, and he said none. This is one indicator I use if a blade's alignment is not as designed.

With the exception of the combo tool.
This one scratches the blade slightly on all knives I own which have it.
It's confirmed by a handfull of members too.

I checked my Golfer and you're right, its blade has scratches where it meets the combo tool  :td:
