I've Got A Farmer [pics ahoy]
on: March 24, 2010, 06:29:13 PM
And here he is...

Oh wait wrong picture  :P

To begin with here's the box. A whole lot of box for a Farmer  :o

I can see the appeal of these Alox models  :salute: Built to last and they just look great, different to the red you expect from the Swiss :tu:

The blade on this appears bigger in some way to the regular SAK   I think I might look towards a coloured model too  :ahhh

It's our Wedding Anniversary soon, I said to Mrs. Cerbera she can give me this :D Even though I got it lol. I am thinking about having our wedding date engraved on the back. This one's a keeper, haven't decided on Mrs. C . Thought it would add some nice sentimentality to it  :)

Mike, you should get a Farmer  :pok: I think you'll like it :D

The Soldier takes out the saw, is that right? Makes it thinner and lighter I suppose :)

That's it! And yes, the blade is quite a bit bigger (and thicker) than the regular 91mm SAKs.
I used to come here a lot.

I thought there was a presentation case in it but no  ::)

I wondered that too lol. On the back of the box it says 'Essential Mountain Rescue Kit'.

Maybe it's a mountain Farmer :D

Ryan, yes you do  :pok:

If you like SAK's you gotta get one of these  :tu:
I got this from Amazon for £17. Not sure if this is a good price, I used vouchers to get it :D

I wouldn't mind having one of those boxes, no fancy packaging like that around here.  It is very silly though, but that's the point of most packaging.  Typically Victorinox has always for the most part been very skimpy on packaging, so it's a little unusual if you ask me.

Its probably special packaging just for that company. I noticed this on the back side of the box.

Word of warning on if you want to engrave the knife - either engrave the blade, or get the engraving plate laser engraved - physical engraving will allow the alox to chip and look bad. :/

On another note, I've not seen a box like that before - almost all of the SAKs I purchase are in the standard slip boxes - I'd be expecting at least six Farmers in that single box. >:D

I'm thinking the boxes might be exclusive to Amazon, as I've had a couple of Vic Swisschamp's come in them

Sadly they are now very common in the UK.  If you buy online these days there is a high probability of your knife arriving in one of these giant wastes of space :(

It will invariably come a bit crushed as they are about as robust as a cornflakes packet ::)    The slip boxes are certainly preferable, though I'm happiest when stuff arrives in just one of those vinyl slip cases unless its a collectable.

I've had a couple of rants about those boxes before so I won't bother repeating myself as I seem to be in good company.  Flippin' waste of space....grumble grumble... >:(

Back to the knife, they're very nice aren't they Dan. :tu:  And you've got some great shots of it. :salute:

Yes, I have never seen that type of packaging either. I bet that would add a bit to the postage.  :o

Nice farmer.  :salute:

Tis true. If you walk into any branch of Black's or Millets now, these boxes are displayed. I can see why, it's so they look good and are noticed in shops, point of sale advertising and all that. I still prefer the properly sized grey boxes though. I feel exactly the same about Leatherman goods too, the "Yellow boxes" are far more environmentally friendly, easy to store and reusable than those "designed by Satan" blister packs  >:(
I used to come here a lot.

Is laser engraving easily available?

I'd gladly trade my box with any interested parties  ;) :D My box for your Alox  :pok: :pok:
