Would you pay 700 quid for a knife? If not, what is the most you would pay?

  • I just don't know what went wrong.
I just paid the most I've ever paid for a custom knife. I sold a whole bunch of stuff and bought me a custom Emerson MV-4 Viper in mint condition. I know a bunch of you guys will think I'm out of my mind, but here is my new way of thinking. I would rather have one really nice knife than 10-12  $100 knives. I plan to make this knife my main edc for a long, long time.  :D

With all due respect, who the heck are you kidding?  :rofl:

I was thinking that too but kept my mouth shut! Quiet, you! You're ruining our chances of freebi-- Have some respect! :twak:

So who's starting the poll for actual carry time? :pok:

Yep, for one day. Don't worry... I'm only trading it for another custom Emerson. If I don't make the trade I'm keeping this one. Its a win-win for me.   :tu:

Maybe I'm retarded , but Emerson's don't float my boat . With the exception of the Mini CQC7 ( waved ) . For that kinda bucks I'm more into Bob T. , or Rick Hinderer . Actually , I think I'm pretty much done with the Tacticool Genere .

I see your point. I've thought many times of selling off all my tac's and going back to carrying a simple alox SAK, but what fun would that be.  ;)

Would I spend $1000 on a knife?

Of course I would if I had a spare $1000! Right now I wouldn't as having $1000 available to spend is a bit of a rare circumstance here, but when my kids leave home and pay their own way etc - why the hell not! You earned the cash GG, spend it on stuff you like whether it's "sensible" or not, I say.

Gorgeous knife btw  :cheers:

Just to add - many people wouldn't hesitate to spend that much on a wrist-watch or jewellery when there are cheaper alternatives available that would perform just as well. What's the difference, really?

I agree with you Dave  :tu:

My logic for buying most stuff whether it's an iPod or Leatherman is I know I will get my money's worth. I take good care of my things, add to that great quality and it'll last for ages :D

I've had my current iPod for almost 3 years and it still works and looks great  :tu: It cost £150 IIRC. Had I got a cheaper no name brand I would have had to replace several times I'm sure and all the hassle that goes with it  :-\

Didn't think I'd spend what I have on my Leatherman's but I fell for the quality and design  :ahhh

I'm very much of the same opinion Dan - if you can afford quality, then that's the way you should go every time! Especially with gear!

About a year ago, the missus and I went shopping for lightweight waterproof coats. In the Peaks (as with any high ground) the weather can be a bit unpredictable, so I explained to her that any coat she chose should be :

A) Gore-Tex;
B) A recognisable, warrantied brand;
C) Lightweight and preferably easily packable in a small day pack.

I picked up a Berghaus pack-lite. Ticks all the boxes, weighs next to nothing and has the Gore-Tex that I considered essential. She, bought some cheaper brand thing at about the quarter of the cost "because of the price". I could not dissuade her. Needless to say, hers was a pig to carry around and didn't protect her from the elements like mine did, making a couple of walks we did last year quite uncomfortable for her, and today she's told me that the zip has fallen apart.....

Me: "Shall we go and get you one like mine then?
Her: "Yes please".
Me: "OK then".
Her: "What are you looking at me like that for"?

If it wasn't my money I'd find it quite funny  :D

thats the argument my materials teacher has

he went " i could buy a reggata coat of the same quality as a Berghaus one, the difference being that the regatta one will be good for one or two walking seasons and the Berghaus one will last me at least ten years'

oh and by quality he means fit for purpose
