Battery storage

Does anyone have any good ideas of how to organise your rechargeable batteries?
I have a little pile of 'empties' on the left of the charger and a couple of 'charged' on the right of the charger,
A bit untidy,  :ahhh
Any ideas please?

Holders marked empty and charged?
Sets of batteries with numbers taped on them?

No, just holders with the batteries numbered - say 3 sets of 4, 4 of them numbered one, then 4 numbered 2 etc.  I then use them in order, the "3's" followed by the ones again.
I'm back!!

Get some small plastic storage bins/organizers with multiple compartments inside, and some have movable plastic slats so you can adjust the size in the interior. You can find them at hardware or fishing supply stores.

Count up number of batteries you have, grab a lump of wood and drill that many holes about 30mm deep with a 15mm bit.  Job done :D

Put your flat cells in your fancy pants new holder negative up and your charged ones positive up :tu:
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

That's a great way to ruin your batteries.

Battery storage

Does anyone have any good ideas of how to organise your rechargeable batteries?
This pic is about a year and a half old (I have even more batteries now), but this is what I keep my charged batteries and any primary cells in (I've gotten rid of most of my alkaline cells)

I have moulded AA battery holders and then number sets so I know what are dead etc.

Holders marked empty and charged?
Sets of batteries with numbers taped on them?
I have some AA & AAA battery cases I got at one of the local dollar store chains.
They are divided in half, one side has "New" on it and "used" on the other.

Aside from my case idea, your next best solution is to get a multimeter so u can see which ones are charged/dead

not if you have a quality charger

The only type of cell that should be trickle charged is lead acid.  According to battery manufacturers NiCd, NiMH, and Li-Ion (especially Li-Ion) should not be constantly trickle charged, regardless of what charger you have--though the charger manufacturer may claim it's OK.  A .01C - .05C trickle would be OK for 12-24 hours or so, but any amount of trickle charging beyond that will reduce the overall service life of a NiMH or NiCD cell.

If you have quality (LSD) NiMH cells, they don't need to be trickle charged.  They will be at ~80% charge after sitting on a shelf for a year.  If you want a lower self-discharge rate than that, pop your cells in a sealed container in the refrigerator.

I'm with Black Rose.  I use a similar setup for my 60 or so NiMH and Li-Ion cells.

Those are just the spares.

I currently have 164 NiMh batteries (AA, AAA, C, D), 6 Li-Ion cells (need more), around 40 Energizer Lithium AAs, and 24 CR123A lithium primaries.

I had more NiMh cells, but I gave 24 of them to a CPFer.

@ blackrose:  Wow, that's impressive.  I was going to post my refrigerator setup, but it's pathetic compared to that.
