I only wish they would make a scissors+SE like the spirit. I love that combonation.

+1 :tu: Those Vic SE's are a quite a pleasure to use, and easy to sharpen too.

Makes me wonder if Swisstool rivets are available anywhere for tool customization

I saved a '98-ish -note the plier- Swisstool from an idiot.

For $30, he sold it to me, and that's when the new life began for the pool fella.
First, it had to be soaked in WD-40 for two whole days for me to be able to even open the pliers. Screwdrivers too. You couldn't imagine how much dirt, ?rust-like stuff? and gunk came out of the poor fella...

And after three weeks it still doesnt stop, but at least it moves and acts like it was intended. :) Knives sharpened, tools cleaned as much as I could, no rustlike stuff any more just some black stuff coming out with the oil. You can still see the brownish stuff coming out with the oil too... Blades need some polishing, and the reamer had to be straightened out.

I had only made after pics, I didn't want to startle you guys. :D

See the dents on the pliers? Barbarism, I tell you.

Small collection of SAK's, (but growing rapidly. :D) not so fast at this time. :( And the most important of all: Ze Zuper Zoldier by Steve!  :ahhh

Na, he was just utilizing the undocumented "hammer feature" of the tool  :D

That one has had a hard life. Its amazing what you can throw at Swisstools and they still come back for more.

I've had several different SwissTools throughout the years. My first one was bought used in Fort Bragg. I hated the serrated blade, so I filed it to a plain edge. I still have this one.

My second one was a spirit. Again, I filed the peanut butter blade to a plain edge, drop point. This tool was traded to a SEAL in Iraq, in exchange for some "special" items.

My third one was a SwissTool RS, purchased for use as an EMT. I gave it to a Firefighter who had very few tools of his own.

The fourth one was a normal SwissTool. I gave it to my father.

The fifth one, I just got a few days ago. It's a Spirit X.

The most recent one is a SwissTool RS, just because I miss the other RS I had.
This is gonna hurt...

I just realized that the SwissTool is pretty much the exact same size as my new Forester and the forester rode well in the small side pocket of my jeans. So.. today the ST gets to tag along, surprisingly comfortable even withuot a sheath. :)

Totally normal with a Vic. Like I said in the past, there seems to be a procedure in the factory:
  • Assemble tool and dip in oil
  • Inspect tool and dip in oil
  • Before packaging tool dip in oil 3 more times
:D

It is necessary though, the excess amount of oil is used to protect the tools as they are in storage and as they travel across the salt seas on their way to distribution.

This is common practice in Russia. :D Oh, and don't forget grease-proof paper for packaging! :D

That's what I figured. I have never had a Swisstool come that packed with grease, but honestly its not an issue. I rather have it packed with grease than rusted.  :tu:
