I love my Leathermans, but I've been a Victorinox carrier since my Dad got me a Huntsman in 1983.  The longer I look at all these beautiful Swiss Tools the more I want one....they are beautiful pieces of craftsmanship!

I had just joined this forum and found out that Victorinox had a few MT models. Who knew?  :D

Anyways, I found an online retailer and bought one of every model he sold. I was rather impressed with these. This was before I started into SAKs.

Some new photos.

I love the Eurotrash orgy photo.  I have the smaller model with scissors (Spirit X?).  Does the ratchet and bit kit work for it as well, is there another kit, or no kit that works with it period?

I bought it used in a knife shop not even knowing what it was but liking the obvious quality and locks on the tools.

PM me if you want one of my kidneys for your SOG TiNi multitool.

OK, both my kidneys.

OK... I now feel eligible... with both a SwissTool Spirit X and SwissTool RS.

I also have a Leatherman Wave. (in addition to his Swisstool RS) I like the one handed opening functions of the Wave, along with a larger straight edge knife that appears tougher and stronger. That's where the benefits end. The quality, precision and feel of the Victorinox offerings make the Leatherman feel like a cheap ripoff. I find the tools overall to be better in the Victorinox, and they are all accessed externally. The Leatherman also already has rust spots despite not being used around water or near marine environments.

To be fair, the flat head screwdrivers on Leathermen are  better than those of Swisstools, because they're not polished round at the edges. As a result, they tend to stay in their slots better. If you're pushing down perfectly in line with the screw, neither will slip out. If you're off just a bit, the Victorinox drivers will slide on that radiused corner, where the Leathermen will bite in and usually stay put.

On my Swisstool, I feel like if I have a really tight flat head screw, I could bend the medium screwdriver/bottle opener before breaking it loose. (since it is the same thickness as on a SAK, but longer)

I have a Swisstool Spirit X on the way, engraved with my name. That's how confident I am that I'll like it. :)

Also, a pair of Gerber MP400s, an MP400 blunt tip, and a Wave for comparitive purposes.  ::)

A Swisstool Spirit, a Gerber MP400 and a Wave ... looks like you have everything you need to do a complete 2015-2016 Burial Project  :pok:.

I would do it but I don't have an MP400 .

P.S.: Those are some sweet tools coming your way, enjoy them  :salute:.

I was thinking of maybe an ultimate MT face-off review. I might go pick up a SOG PowerLock just to make that happen and have an entry from each of the big manufacturers. Maybe I'll even format it nicely and submit it here for my review badge...

Burial is not a realistic situation for most MTs. It's just a dramatised corrosion-resistance test, right? More realistic would be maybe a salt spray test (to simulate winter or seaside duty) or some drop tests. (I could probably do them both at work) The problem is that if they fail, I'm out the money from my pocket just to satisfy some curiosity.

The review idea sounds great  :tu:

And you're right, most multi's won't find themselfs buried for a year, I couldn't do that to any of my tools, not even to one of my Spirits, and I own like three butterblade Spirits (and a BO Spirit X and a Road Tour, and no Monrogue, I'm not sending my RT to you ...  :twak:).

I do like that someone here is willing to do this, but I couldn't  ::).

Just in!

It is so cute and tiny! LOL! Perfect for the pocket. And it came with a free flash light.

Nice case but it will go in the drawer with all the rest since I never use them.

It seems like top notch quality and think I will do a full review on it with lots of pics after a few weeks of use.

Time to join in this one.  My first Swisstool.  I got it second hand at 40% less versus retail price.  Looks like a 1998 version based on the plier head.

I guess the best part of this is that this model isn't readily available in local stores/distributors in Manila.

The tool had it's fair share of work -- I'm bound to give it a WD40 bath and try to brush off some of the gunk that accumulated on it.  The sheath isn't the stock sheath but that slot on the side looks perfect for a penlight to complement it.

Oh, the thing about the weight -- the compact package makes you grip it quite well that you don't realize it's as heavy as the numbers say it is.

Finished touching up the RS I recently got.  It's got a good heft to it, especially when working with it.

It's either I haven't sharpened the PE blade properly or I shouldn't expect it to be as razor sharp as say, a LM Sidekick blade?

Had to do a few more swipes with the sharpener and I think I may have gotten it right already!

It won't get as razor sharp as a Leatherman blade unless you re-grind the primary bevel. Leatherman uses a much shallower primary bevel angle, which I then put a 40° secondary (working) bevel on. It's very easy with Leatherman. Not hard with Vic, but not as easy as with LM.

I've sharpened LM and Wenger blades without a problem.  Wenger, I think just because the blades are generally thinner to start with and LM, that secondary bevel mentioned above.  I've never had great luck sharpening Vic blades, but I am by no means a sharpening expert.

Wow, that does make a lot of sense.  I guess the most I can sharpen the PE blade is equal to how a Rebar's PE blade is.

If there's another thing I learned from all of this, it's to use the flathead as the pry tool instead of the PE blade. One may argue that the knife blade can get into tighter areas but then there's the chisel- easier to maintain and as good as a follow thru as a flathead.

Currently using it to fix a defective light switch by the landing at the stairs.

Hi!

I'm here playing with my SwissTool RS and notice it's difficult to get the blade out due to how far it is recessed. No idea if it has always been this way or not - as I just cut my nails short  (using the scissors on it,  of course).

Follow SwissTool connoisseurs, is this normal? Picture attached for context :)
