Thoughts On Limited Final Run Victorinox Soldier
on: March 31, 2010, 09:45:12 PM
I have a chance to buy a limited final production run etched 1961 Soldier in excellent shape.  What do you guys think of it and what would you consider to be a good price?  Thanks for the help.

Felinevet has/had them on his site , he's about as fair as it gets , and will give you a pretty reliable indication of price . Just checked , Felinevet has etched final 08 production run Alox Soldiers for $35.00 . Doing bussiness with the cat man is a good deal all around , he provides good stuff at fair prices , and helps out distressed kitties .

I would think an etched '61 model would be worth a fair bit more than an '08 model though.....

I should have been clearer.  It is the 2008 model.  They are commonly referred to as the 1961 Soldier as they started making them in '61 and it was the official issue of the Swiss Army from 1961 to 2008.  The knife in question is etched "Final Production Run 1 of 5,000 U.S.A."

For me having U.S.A on the blade has spoilt it  >:(  What on Earth has U.S.A got to do with the final production run of the Swiss Army knife . Its Bloody Swiss Army brand going off and doing their own thing again isn't it  ::)

Sorry for the rant

Rant? What Rant?  >:D Actually the 5000 were made for the U.S. market. I believe they were also available elsewhere in the world without the U.S.A. included.

:tu: Exactly. I'm glad I was able (through Tim, of course!) to get both the 08 Soldier and SI without that silly engraving. Still trying to get my hands on an 08 new Soldier. That'll be tougher.

I'm with Dunc;  In my mind the one to get really is one with 08 tang and no blade etching!  Those seem like the real collectable ones.  Might as well grab the Wenger version too.   Of course if the price is right... they're all good.

There is always the Red 08, that's a beauty!  Unfortunately they're not easy to come by.

I managed to find two of those at a local B&M store.

I paid less than $25 each for them.

Can you get any more?

:D

I may want one of those.

I can trade you for a red or black pioneer...

I'm thinking of ordering some.
I'll be around at the end of this year.

Probably not.  I got my last one just after Christmas.

They had managed to get their hands on a few more (< 10) and that was supposedly it for them.

Sorry, I'm keeping these ones.

These are really the only collectable SAKs I have.
