There are always the non-locking Bear tools

I know what you mean though.   A Spirit with locking drivers but non-locking blades would be most welcome.  A nice strong backspring and perhaps a choil like on the Spyderco UKPK.

Bit of the blade between the pivot and the cutting edge.  If you take a look at the UKPK you'll see a curved cut out from the bottom of the blade next to the handle.  On that particular knife it works exceptionally well at preventing you folding the blade on your fingers even though there is no lock.

You make it sound painful   But basically yes.  It really works very well.

No the stiff arsed backspring does that

It's more of an additional safety in that the kicker/choil prevents it closing on your fingers

Plus it make it easy to choke up your grip on the blade for extra fine cuts

Yeah, gives you a lot more control of the blade for fine work.  I never get a user that doesn't have one - they're just so useful.

Why not just leave the blade off completely? That's easier and you could replace it with another tool or make the tool thinner. Besides, you then have an excuse to carry another SAK!

I personally don't like bladeless MT's, having said that, if it was the only option...

I prefer bladeless MT's.  As someone that always carries a folder of some sort, I find the blades on a MT to be completely redundant.

That's what I've been thinking recently - mod a SOG to be useful and bladeless and then carry the UKPK with it. Keeping a serrated blade in might be a useful option I think

You can do a Power lock with 4 long tools, file, wood saw, serrated blade, and scissors or v cutter and leave a pe blade out

IMO all Victorinox would have to do is take the locks off and cut a few less slots in the backsprings. Putting all the sharps on one side and leaving the other locking would be a bonus.

Has anyone here tried temporarily disabiling the locks on their spirit? If so, how stiff were the springs? This simple mod might just convince me to buy a Spirit, but only if the springs make the tool usable without locks!

Only ever done it to a SwissTool.  A passable solution but obviously not ideal.

Has anyone tried to Dremel off the hump where the lock catches? Convert the hump to a ramp and it won't lock - and it won't stop any of the other tools from locking.
