A shout out for the Wenger Diplomat
on: April 07, 2010, 08:01:51 AM
I've seen little or no mention of this little fellow. Lately it's been in my pocket on days when I am required to wear slacks to work.

I trimmed off the keyring attach point to make it a little more pocketable. It was easy since it is a part of an aluminum spacer, five minutes with a side cutter and file we're good to go.

If a Vic Executive or Ambassador is a bit too small and a vintage Golfer a lot too spendy, seek out a Diplomat. I think you'll like this sleek little SAK in your pocket.

Cheers

I do like this knife as well. I have a couple of them in Ruby. I think Wenger discontinued these.

I remember looking at these a couple of years ago as an alternative to a 84mm Vic Golfer.  In the end I got my hands on a Golfer but there's no doubt that's still a good lightweight SAK. :tu:

A couple strange things about this model is is LACK of a toothpick. It does not even have the slot for it. Another thing, my Ruby Red model Diplomat shows clearly the area where the corkscrew would have gone. The liner has the cut out for it and since its partially transparent you can see it.

BTW-this one is available for trade.

A SAK without a corkscrew just isn't right.  Especially when it adds no bulk or space.

A saw layer in an urban environment is a waste of time - period.  :D

You reminded me I have a ruby scaled spare Diplomat. It also has the cutout liner where a corkscrew (or phillips) might have gone. I never noticed that before.

While digging out my spare Diplomat I found another Wenger I had forgotten I had. It has the same tool set as a Diplomat with the addition of a toothpick and phillips driver on the the back. If I remember right it also had the short chain on the lanyard attach point. I didn't care for that so I removed all but the end link with split ring.

I don't find this combination listed on SakWiki. Smartknives.com has mention of a phillips variant under the name of "PocketMate".  http://www.smartknives.com/Wenger-Knives/Wenger-Pocket-Mate-Phillips.htm

I bought this from an eBay dutch auction a couple years ago. The seller had several for sale but no name attached. Anyone have an idea the name might be?

(Odd, the pic was loading earlier. I think photobucket is doing some late night maintenance. If it doesn't show up tomorrow I'll re-upload it)

The pic's working fine now.  I've seen the Pocketmate with a corkscrew for sale but the Phillips is a new one on me.  Nice find I think.  :tu:
