New Charges with S30V steel
on: August 07, 2006, 01:55:05 AM
It apppears that Leatherman has upped the anti again in the multi tool market with the introduction of a new Charge.
The new model will combine the features of the current product but will change the blade steel to S30V, price is in at $143.00 dracmas......I saw this at www.outdoorsuperstore.com and its called the TTI
They have retained the current models with cm154 but have changed the scales to anodized aluminum and are calling the gut hook model Charge ALX and thr scissor model AL.

is it just me or does anyone else cringe at a $140+ multitool?  You could get a set of dedicated tools at Home Depot for a hell of alot less than that...

I don't really see the point in putting super blade steels on multitools. The blades on them are usually really thick so the edge geometry and drag from the bevels make them lousy cutters anyways. This just seems to make them lousy but more expensive cutters!

At that price I'd want it to have some major improvements over the old Charge - like Spring Loaded and Compound Leverage Pliers, Replaceable Wire Cutters, Hammer Section, Tritium, Spirit Level, Thumb Studs on Main Blades, Free Driver Bit Set etc etc ...... !!

And a rechargeable 16.2 V cordless drill?

I agree- some tools seem to be getting kind of pricey.

LOL !!  Good Idea !!  If Leatherman could squeeze an electric motor in there, I'd happily pay 150 bucks !! :D

Though I would settle for just a nice Bit Driver with a ratcheting mechanism .....

Yup.  It's one of the options available with the Spirit Plus.  You can have either a wrench or ratchet.  I had one and gave it to my father.  He thinks it's great and I have to agree with him.

Cool !!

But I'm hoping for one built-in to the tool ...... having stuff separate kinda defeats the object of a Multitool !

Well, maybe in the next generation...

I don't think there's much available like that now.
