Another Iphone thread...Confusion abounds!

Hi,
I know there's a lot of other good phones out there, but I really like my Iphone.  But, I'm up for upgrade in a couple months and I'm wondering if anyone out there can clear something up for me:
I was planning on upgrading to the 3GS, but is there a new phone coming out this summer?  I know that the 4.0 OS is supposed to come out...that's been confirmed.  But does anyone here know for sure if a new phone is in coming out?  Quite frankly, I think if the parts of the 4.0 OS will work with the 3GS without draining battery, then I'll probably just get it. I got my current Iphone right before the 3GS came out.  So, any ideas or any advice?  I'm not so much concerned about the multitasking capabilities of the new OS because it does't bother me not having it.  What I would like, however, is voice dialing on the 3GS...so, any advice?

I say wait for the next model to come out and then make your decision. The price of 3GS will fall and you'll know how stable the new phone and OS are before making your purchase. I worked for Cingular a few years back and always avoided the first batches of new model phones, they usually developed problems unseen or unpredicted by the manufacturer.

that sounds like good advice, in general I'd say sit on the old model for a few months until the new one comes out and at very least the 3GS should drop in price... unless your current one is dying...

I think I"d be pretty happy with the 3GS too...did you have the 3G before this?  What are the differences, if you did?

im gonna wait for the next iphone to come out, as it will push the price down of the 3gs. at the moment im on a blackberry pearl  still a good phone for what it is

The new iPhone is just an os update so the price of the 3gs isn't going to drop anytime soon so I would go ahead and get it

What new iPhone? They gave a preview on the new OS, and some of the new OS features give hints on the next iPhone. Traditionally new iPhones will be presented in June.
Based on the iPhone OS4 info, and some rumors, the new iPhone 4 will be slightly larger, featuring HD, OLED Display, 5MP cam, better digitizer (like on the iPad) and a new CPU, maybe an Apple-made chip like the iPad CPU.

Still, this is just rumors, but in the last couple of years some rumor sites turned out to be really well informed. I´ll wait for the next iPhone to see if there is any reason left to get an iPad

i agree rumors are that the 4th gen iphone will be out in the summer.  personally  i love my android device (moto droid).  if i were you and wanted to stick with an iphone, WAIT!  if the 4th gen gets released and actually has good specs then get it.  if not well Droid Does

What is a DROID phone?  I wouldn't mind trying one of the other cool and nifty devices out there, but with apple's propietary stuff and itunes having damn near ALL of my music and stuff tied to it, I might not ever be ABLE to get another phone.  LOL.

And the current one is already huge! What kind of trouser pockets Apple expecting in the future?  What happened with "in the future everything will be smaller"?

That's a bit different than the other one I saw, but nice nonetheless.

I saw this earlier and I must say it would appear to be the real deal.  I'm not crazy about that screen resolution on a slightly smaller screen though.

kell-  my phone is the motorola droid on verizon's network.  it runs android which is an OS (operating system).  android is an open source OS which means you can tweak until your hearts content and keep going.  personally i like VZW over att.  and not to mention that vzw is also about to release the 'droid incredible' which will make my droid like like a pile of junk...  its your call, the 4th gen iphone looks nice but they (apple) take forever and a day to get good hardware out.  i mean it took them to the 3rd version of the OS before you had copy and paste.  i could keep going but then i'd be hijacking you hijacking which i hijacked to begin with.  shoot me a PM of you want more info/rants.

the next iPhone is no longer just a rumor. It IS indeed coming out, likely later this year. Read through the top stories at the top of the page for details. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you, as it will make the 3Gs price drop substantially. Personally I think the iPhone is vastly over rated, but that's my opinion. I love my Sidekick, it does everything I need it to do (Text, IM, Email, Internet) at a much cheaper price. It also actually multi-tasks better than the iPhone. But that's my needs, not yours. I would wait for next iPhone to release and see what happens to prices from there.

I little bit more than rumors considering some apple engineer who was testing the new model, left it in a bar recently and some online company paid $5,000.00 for it and now Apple is threatening to sue unless they give it back.

Its coming out but when..?  Not sure.  I'd love to be on the testing team!
I also bought my 3G right before the 3GS came out and if I were thinking of getting a new one I'd hold off for the next model to come out.  Like its been said, at the very least, the 3GS will surely drop!
