Removing the Red Swisstool logo !
« on: April 21, 2010, 12:43:27 AM »
Now before I get banished for life from this sub-forum let me explain.

There's a Swisstool at a local shop being sold at a killer price, the catch is that the red logo is scratched up bad...

If I could safely remove it with say a razor blade, I'd go buy it and just live with it being all silver.

It's been too long and I really want to get a Vic...

So what do you guys think?  Can it be done easily?

I've seen some with the red mostly scratched off just from normal use/carry. So it must not be too difficult....?

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools

I'm sure it's easy, if not some paint stripper would take care of it.

I'd use some paint thinner like jzmtl just said and rub it on with a rag.

I took mine off easily enough.  It has been a while since I did but I think I used a scotchbrite pad.

regular use tore it away in a few years.
I'ld rub it with a cloth and some thinner.

If it's a killer price does it matter then..?

No chemicals needed. I took mine off in like 5 minutes using the chisel/scraper on my Spirit. It comes off VERY easily. Using the Spirit didn't leave any scratches at all since the metals are the same hardness. The paint doesn't stick too hot to the polished surface so it comes right off with like zero effort, and IMO it looks much better without it. Honestly I was able to get some of it off with my fingernail. Just be careful not to push too hard with whatever tool you use to avoid any scratches, it doesn't take much to remove the stuff.

I understand  :tu: Either with the logo or without logo not in between :D

I had considered something similiar with mine but never bothered.

I'd definitely get it if the price is good ACHË  :salute:

Thanx a lot for the suggestions guys, I'll pull the trigger and see what all the Vic fuss is about for myself.

Well it's not like it's $20 or something...If it was Burger King combo cheap I'd be showing pics of my new tool instead.

why not just leave it as is? I don't get it

I like my gear to be clean and look nice; a half flaked off logo looks terrible on any tool.

Go for it buddy; make sure to negotiate the best price due to its scratches  :)

Scothbrite pad will do the trick. I agree with the "neatness" of a clean tool, but on the other hand its shows character. A tool is meant to be used. Collecting aside that is.  ;)

Well...I just pulled the trigger....

Oh the tool is far from mint with or without the logo; it's full of those little hairline scratches that show up under bright light. The blades are very dirty and also full of those "scotchbrite scratches".

On the plus side, as expected from a Vic, all the tools move smoothly and snap nicely in the open/closed position. The pliers are tight and snap open and closed with a nice snap.

I'll clean her up and maybe post some pics later.
