Incoming vs Outgoing
on: April 27, 2010, 11:12:52 PM
Some (alot!) of us here like to trade off stuff to get new stuff. So how do you decide what you have in the keep pile vs what you consider trading away? And the bonus question is do you have regrets in trading a certain something off.

Me- I'm trying to hold on to retired Leathermans in my keep pile while trading some stuff to add to that. I regret trading away my Supertool and my Pulse..

As far as plier-based MTs go, I'm not a collector...  So it's easy for me.  I just try a new tool and if I don't find myself using it and carrying it, I sell it.  Here's how it works out:

Stuff I use:
Swisstool X
Spirit
LM Pulse
LM ST200
LM Wave (use on occasion)

Stuff I typically sell/trade, or currently need to sell/trade:
Any Sog (I don't buy them anymore, but have one or two to get rid of)
Any Gerber (most likely will not buy another)

So basically, I plan to try out new LMs and Swisstools only in the future.

SAKs are a completely different story.  Reasons to trade them would be that I don't use them, don't like the tool selection, don't find them interesting or pretty, or they have no personal or monetary value.  So, basically, I just keep most of them.   ;) :D

I don't have any regrets but, I keep my ST200 and Pulse and use them!  :P :D

I would only class myself as a very casual collector of non SAK MTs.  So any standard model that I'm not using can go.  The oddball ones I tend to keep as they make me smile, the Flair being the classic example.

SAKs, almost everything is kept :D

Duplicates can go (most of the time) or occasionally I might decide I don't want to complete a particular sub category (i.e. all variations of the Champion) in which case I might keep an example of the type and part with the rest.

Once in a blue moon I regret a trade/sale but its rare.

I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Everything I have is for trade, except a few items.  I don't think will ever trade my small micarta sebbie, unless it was for a large.  If the right trade comes a long I will trade in a heartbeat.  I have no regrets in anything I have traded, if I really wanted the item back it could be traded for again.  I just hate I don't have much trading stock right now.

If it doesn't agree with me , and friends or co workers express an interest , I will give away or trade redundant stuff . I'm not a collector , only owning 3 plier based tools at the moment . SAK's seem to survive longer.

If it isn't a dup it doesn't leave the collection. I use all multis occasionally.

Anything I don't have a use for is up for the chop.  I do collect MT's and knives etc, but I have a collection of users, so anything that isn't a user has to go.
I'm back!!

Generally I treat everything I own as desktop icons, if it goes unused then it goes to the recycle bin, it works for me and I usually end up with stuff that I keep and is used all the time  :salute:

It tends to be mainly incoming for me  ::) ::) :D
I have surprised myself with some of the tools I have traded , mainly for something more interesting or if I know the other person needs something more than I do or will appreciate it more than me  :D

I tend to mod what i have which makes it a little more difficult to trade as the items aren`t Brand new anymore.
If anyone is looking for an Zebralight H60 with a retractable (zipka style) headband just let me know ;)

I have found it difficult deciding on whether to keep my Leathermans that I have been lucky to get  :-\

This thread has put me in the mood to question and query my current inventory :D

Might look to expand my Maxpedition empire  :tu:

One of each, please..  ;)
No regrets yet and it makes me happy if something I traded away is appreciated by the new owner. :)

All of my stuff has a role.
Dual Pro X - car
Yeoman - desk
PT-510 - knifeless MT
Wave - main MT
Egghead - knifeless EDC
MiniChamp - EDC
Cadet - Nice pants EDC

Which leaves my Locksmith without a role. It's leaving. Also my MiniChamp is being replaced with a Manager as soon as someone buys it.
