Leatherman K502x
on: April 29, 2010, 06:19:00 PM
I've got myself a Leatherman knife at last  :ahhh :ahhh A great one too  :tu:

The Leatherman K502x is full of features, this isn't just a knife.
  • 154CM Stainless Steel Drop-point Knife
  • Bit Driver with Bit Storage for 2 bits in the Handle
  • Bottle Opener / Carabiner Clip
  • Can Opener
  • Glass-filled Nylon and Aluminum Handle
  • Thumb Stud
  • Lockback

Measurements
  • 4.49 in | 11.4 cm (closed)
  • 3.1 in | 7.9 cm (blade length)
  • 7.2 oz | 307 cm

I got mine in a trade with Rhino1227  :salute: and sadly didn't come with the pocketclip but this isn't an issue for me. It came with a great sheath so I'm a happy chap :D

It is a chunky knife but I like that, it makes it really comfortable to use. It is most definitely not UK legal carry so it'll not be in my pocket. This knife has got me interested in Leatherman's range of knives  :tu:

To fit so much in this knife is a work of art. If I could grumble on anything I would settle for 'proper' separate screwdrivers but that's it :D  I can't talk for the lack of Blade Launcher as I've never had the pleasure of an Assisted Opening or Blade Launcher knife but hope to at some point.

Do you think a Kick pocket clip would fit this knife?

Also when it arrived it has a sticker on the back stating it had been opened and checked by Customs  This may have been the hold up and not the Icelandic volcano as I had first thought  ::)

Why would they have checked it?

They have to check to make sure you can't open it under inertia.

If they could off, you'd of lost that knife mate :-\

Phew!

So did they pick it up from a scanner? Its description was 'pocket tool'  :)

Would a blade launcher knife make it through?

I suspect that they open thing's at random anyway, but I would image they have a few key words to look out for, and pocket tool probably would be one of them :)

Could be checking legality, could be checking the declared value (which is very hard to do with a used tool or knife unless there's an invoice in the package).

The main thing is, they did their jobs and drew the right conclusions. I like when things work properly :tu:

Now, about this knife......

I have the K500x (the slimmer brother to yours) and the H502 (the cheaper brother to yours). The K500 has a pocket clip, but the H502 doesn't and lacks the usual shaping of the handle that the clip fits into.

My theory, is that the H502 / K502x ain't supposed to be pocket clipped!

But Dan, I ask you, how nice is that blade, eh?

I used to come here a lot.

So if this knife had a blade launcher how would that go down with the authorities?

The blade is A-mazing

Not bad for my first folder  :tu: Look forward to finding more  :ahhh  :D

The launcher makes no odds on legality as it is not on the banned list and can't be classified as anything else on there already.  The problem is, and always is on this kind of knife, the inertia opening.
I'm back!!

In truth, this knife has quite a potent backspring, so the blade launcher wouldn't work!

I used to come here a lot.
