Norfolk being flat it had more than it's share of WW2 airfields and indeed there was one not more than a couple of miles from where I live. RAF Matlaske was a satellite airfield to RAF Coltishall.  Sadly it's been returned to farmland as have most, and little remains although many of the locals round here remember driving lessons on the airfield in the 1970's. It's still an impressive place and has quite an atmosphere. Here are a few photos

Sections of runway and a couple of air raid shelters are all that visibly remain, although the command bunker is said to exist. I couldn't find it but the entrance may have been covered by vegetation .. need to visit this place in winter  :)

That certainly feels very evocative mate, good luck finding the command centre.  :salute:

I'm going back later in the year. The entrance is probably blocked, but I'm sure a Swisstool will make short work of that  ;)

It was the bases in southern England that took the real brunt initially :-\

Very cool!

I bet it would be a good place to have a good flashlight (torch) and some spare batteries.

Beautiful shots.
