Help Wanted!

Can anyone recommend me a good folding bushcraft knife? Obviously it would need a strong pivot and lock...

What's your budget ? Some like the Cold Steel pocket Bushman , Kershaw has some very stout offerings , The Zero Tolerance folders from Kershaw are very tuff , and well crafted ,  in particular the ZT 200 .

As regards slipjoint offerings , the old Sodbuster patterns are simple , stout , and slice well .

Don't forget the Vic. Farmer , very Bush friendly !

Budget would be... Not much! I know it's tight, but not much more than £30 ideally. I'd go up to £50 though.

Well the Farmer's my go too bushcraft folding knife :)

What sort of task are you thinking of using it for? And would a fixed blade, hatchet serve you better? :)

You mention "a strong pivot and lock"....

Does this need to be EDC legal, or simply a good bushcraft knife?

If you're after a slipjoint then that's going to limit you a bit, if not, there's a whole load of knives out there!

I used to come here a lot.

To answer your questions...

I don't think I would use it for anything a folder couldn't handle, I did consider a fixed blade, but I just prefer the folder design.

It doesn't matter if it locks, but I would quite like it to be small. The Pocket Bushman would be perfect, but it's just to big. around 3-inches would be perfect.

I really think a Spyderco Manix 2 or SOG Vulcan would fit the bill best. But they are way more expensive, so I recommend a Spyderco Tenacious or one of the new SOG Fusion folders. I tried the large StainlessSteel SOGzilla and it feels solid.

What bushcraft like tasks are you wanting to do?  I only ask as a 3" folder doesn't sound like a typical "bushcraft" ideal to me.
I'm back!!

I know what you mean, but I mainly want it for slicing and peeling bark, that kind of thing. The reason I want it to be strong is just in case I get carried away...

Now you mention it though, it does seem a bit small...

Has anyone reviewed a Pocket Bushman?

I have a couple of questions on the matter of bushcraft knives. I found this link http://www.woodsmonkey.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=494:creating-a-folding-bushcraft-knife&catid=41:how-to-articles&Itemid=63/ and wondered if anyone had tried this and knew if it was any good. Also, what blade shapes would you guys consider good for bushcraft, in any knife folding or fixed?

Opinel's are pretty good knives, and quite easy to mod too :)

Not the strongest knife out there for heavy work though :-\
