Bumping because I don't want to see this incredible project go unfinished.  :pok: :pok: :pok: :pok:

I'm dying to get an XE6 myself and do some modding to it. Is it really that hard to take it apart and reassemble it? I wanted to drop the straight edge and saw to make it as thick as a CS4, replace the flat driver bits with a custom made setup that would allow the use of power driver bits,

and also do something with that ridiculous corkscrew.  ::)

Unfortunately I don't have the equipment that J-sews does so readily available. I'll have some access to a welding shop I used to work at, but I can't do whatever I want like I own the place.

In the meantime I'd be happy if J-sews would update us on any progress and/or post more multitool porn.

Glad this got bumped, as now I'm rethinking the mod idea. Just don't have the tools to drop in a can opener. Thought the process would of not been so difficult.

Did ask someone at Leatherman about the rivets and/or replacements, no dice.

Don't understand the fascination of a corkscrew. Chako says to use the Vic/SAK screw thing, but the Juice already have a small screwdriver, seems pointless to add yet another screwdriver to justify the corkscrew.
■ Add a thin carabiner
■ Foil Cutter or a long C blade utility knife
That corkscrew doesn't feel natural either, and catches on the sheath.

I ♥ the saw personally. Sharpen the tip similar to the can opener, and square-sharpen for penetration. Worked great for pumpkin carving too!

And I work the Awl to a near knife edge, clean the tip to penetrate material better without warping the metal, and square sharpen everything for better cutting. Then stone down the edges for an even sharper corner edge.

Then things were proceeding nicely again, until it became apparent that my pivot screws are too short. The ones I bought from www.knifekits.com are one half inch long:

(Image removed from quote.)

Unfortunately, it appears they need to be just a little bit longer. :( These are already the longest ones knifekits sells, so I'll have to make my own.

Just curiously, what diameter are the pivot pins?

I have a coupla semi-børked Juices, and have been considering a layer mod, and really REALLY didn't wanna have to deal with peening pins!

(Before anybody asks: Knife, Scissors+Bottle Opener, Saw (yes, saw)+Awl, File. No serrated knife, no freakin' corkscrew. Basically, a KF4 with scissors instead of the serrated blade.)

I'm betting they're prolly some 300-series stainless. Too bad you couldn't harden them...

The Juice pins are 5/32 (or .156") in diameter. Unfortunately though, they are just slightly too short to work on a tool of Kf4 thickness.  :( You would have to drop one whole layer in order for these pins to work.  >:(
What if you just made two of those pivot tubes into one, and fixed them togehter with a grub screw in the middle? Would that become loose too quickly? I can't really see the flaw. Except... I was looking for those pivot screws on knifekits.com, can't find them in the .156 variety. Discontinued or am I just too thick to look properly?

Just been through the whole thread. Good job so far

Yes stainless on stainless is not a good combination, especially with a close tollerance fit or 2 threaded bits. You can get special grease to stop it but in a knife it will eventually come out plus the fit of the pins inside tools would almost be too much of a close fit to even get a alayer of grease between tool and pin. I reckon i would try non stainless steel pins and get them zinc plated. although if you reckon the knife will get wet a lot then brass is probably the better option.

I know everyone here already said, but:

-It's AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

-Getting rid of the paper-thin scales and replace it for titanium is THE best idea for a Juice mod. It should be done by leatherman themselves!!!!!

-The thumb studs are a beautiful add to handling the tool

-I didn't understood why two wood blades but... still looking to be the best Juice ever!

-Someone said Leatherman should hire you. Well, THEY SHOULD!!!! You are doing mods that every juice owner wants.

Thank you Bob!!! And, FINISH IT, PLEASE!!!!!
