Oh crap, here we go....

DW9052.  Saw it at Walmart earlier and for less than $50, I had to.  No need to risk the GX56 in the paint store now....  Believe it or not, the member to blame for this isn't Kirk.  :o  nelly1974 however....  :twak:  ;)

Nice one!

Is this only your second G? If so, there are so many nice ones to try, if not - You know there are STILL so many nice ones to try...  :pok:

Enjoy it!

And, just to BUMP this thread, a modded 9052 I did some time ago.

Yep, only my second one.  Second one in a week, no less.  And I know all too well there are many others to try.  This isn't going to be healthy for my wallet......

You're right, I'm entirely at fault for listening to you tell me that the GX56 was too nice of a watch to wear at work, and to head to Walmart and grab another G.  Gonna have to ignore you from now on....  :P

Thanks.
Yes, I took the dial plate (the plastic beneath the crystal) and the module of a DW-003, which has the same internal case dimensions.
The Butttons were transplants from a DW-9050 (a DW-9052 with a different module).
I removed the print on the crystal with a glass-fiber pen.

I did a second one of those for my brotehr:

"Modding" most often is more of a mix and match of parts, adapting different straps and or recolouring resin parts. It´s more Lego than watchmaking, but it´s fun and you can create a watch for your needs and to your liking.

Here is a Blacked out DW-9052/9000 I did:

When I´m not helping the case anyways, I can still try help enabling :D

One of my first mods:
G-2900, the lettering on the Light button and bezel was /stelthed" and the Stainless steel bezel ring buffed to a satin finish instead it´s stock high-polished appearance.

This is another DW-9000 mod where I combined parts of a metallic blue DW-9400 which had black buttons with blue buttons of a black DW-9000

The DW-9400 (same case, but a thermosensor included) got all black parts and a notched Seiko Diver Rubber strap

This is another early mod, classic DW-5600E with Strap adaptors from a G-Lidfe and 24 mm NATO strap.

Blacked out and stealthed g-3010/3011 variants:

And a little bit crazier, a dyed (was turquise and blue transparent), painted and mirror-modded DW 6900 with pink digits.

Beside it´s stock brother:

With a Baby G with Stock Casio Pink display

Illuminated display full of lint...

Now, did this post help...  :pok:

Was only $15 at a market, but looking in to it I'm 90% sure it's a fake, but it was worth a punt and will do for a work watch.

At first glance it definitely appeared to be a fake what caught my attention was the day of the week because the letters look too skinny also the 3 sub dials look "off" as well .  The case back screws looked weird if you look at the ones in my picture you will see a difference.  The lcd display also appeared "off" in relation to the sub dials. I checked Casio and model DW7900 doesn't show up in the GShock line up however there is a G7900 and a GW7900B-1.  I'd say this isn't a real GShock sorry.

Yep. It is a fake of the well known DW-6900. The makers obviously did not deem it neccesary to be too exact with the details and model numbers...

You can have a look at the many different DW-6900 variants here:

http://watchshock.com/archive/Casio/G-Shock/DW-6xxx/

PTRSAK - If you are willing to spend as much - I think I can let you have a used, but original DW-6600 or 6900 variant of some sort. I´ll have a look. PM me if you are interested.

Thanks for the offer Lowtech, but I'm not too broken up about it being a knock off. It's only for use as a beater.

It was on a table of watches at a market and there were a bunch of G-Shock-a-likes which were as obvious as those Chinese SAK-a-likes with the bump on the scissors. They didn't even have G-Shock on them it was something like G-Shore.

This one "looked" much more legit and even had a Casio tag with a barcode that when scanned and searched took me to the Casio G-Shock website.

Anyway, I still thought it might be dodgy but I was after a cheap watch for work and the $10 K Mart special I was wearing turned out to not be waterproof after I forgot to take it off before washing my hands.

As it turns out, the buttons are a little bit random compared to the legends and it is missing the count-down mode so I revise my opinion to now say it's as bogus as a three dollar bill.
No worries, it's going to get bashed up at work and will probably be in the bin before the battery runs out.

At least they were honest enough to put "Made in Thailand" on the back. :)
I was there in '08 and couldn't believe the number of fake "anything you can think of" that were openly available. Also a lot of genuine "out the back door" stuff. Either that or the workmanship and materials quality of the counterfeits were as good as the real thing.

Target was having a buy one get 50% off one sale on watches, so one of the ones I purchased was a DW 5600. It's date starts at 2010 which is a cool update from the older models. Other than that it has not changed. I'm loving this G so far  :tu: :D
