Is my Wave unique?
on: September 15, 2007, 02:30:45 PM
Following on from the 5 point torx thread i got looking at my wave, and even though i'd noticed before that it had a mix of 6 and 5 point screws i always thought that it matched on either side of a given axle.....turns out i was wrong! Each axle has both a 5 and 6 point head on them......is that normal!?!?
It does mean that i only need one 5 point bit to take it apart though, which is nice!

Pics to show what i mean

I don't know if I'd say it was unique, but it certainly is different!

Is that one original?  Or did you get it second hand?

If it's original, it's probably one from the changeover period, if it's second hand, it may have been cobbled together from a few older, beat up Waves.

Got it brand new 2 and a bit years ago, both handles have 0105 date code. anyone know when they changed over from 5 to 6? It just seems weird that they put one of each on each axle, would have thought there would be some consistency....not that i am complaining, makes it cheaper to take it apart for me, although i am still looking out for a second set of 5 point bits.

It was probably an assembler having both bits on their desk at the same time then, or at least that would be my guess.  I'm really not certain when they changed over, but I am certain someone here will be able to fill that in.

Here's a picture of the pivot screws. Actually only one is a screw; the other is the axle (with a screw head).

Note the flats running full length on the axle.

(All are T10 torx size)

Is not unique, all the Charges TI, Waves and XTI comes in that way some like mines comes one side 5 and the other 6 in the same pivot screw. Mines are 1104.
Enjoy!
