Looks like they have finally arrived.  I suspect they had a VERY limited number at SMKW.  I'm not sure how they choose which retailers will be getting them, but a couple larger ones have told me they will not be getting any.  A couple have also shown up on ebay in the last couple of weeks, so I was wondering if they had landed.

... and that's a great price!  I was shocked a couple of weeks ago when someone picked one up on ebay for a similar price (cheaper) with only one bid on the item.

That did surpriced me to,because the only bidder at that item was just me just to try.:o  It was a US sale.
Other alox SAK's are very overpriced at ebay with a lot off bidders  but this one was
with no bidders underpriced :D
I have two of them now. One I can use it later for trade against other SAK's I need.
There are made 2010 damast pioneers and they are hard to get but other limited collectors items with
only 50  made are easyer to get.

Ya you made a really good buy; had I been at my computer at the time it would not have gone so cheap. I'm glad you got it though, and that I did not drive the price up for you because I didn't really need it; it was just such a good deal I was going to bid on it.

Soon I have to see if I can talk Neil into modding one for me, so it can be my perfect edc.

They haven't showed up on eBay Canada yet. I know, I have been searching on a regular basis.
A little Leatherman information.

I can buy one for 145 Euro (191 USD). I'm tempted but on the other hand, it's quite a lot of money for a knife I would almost not dare to touch or EDC... Same with a flame I know (old stock, NIB) for 69 Euro (91 USD).  The only knife I have NIB is a classic 1884-1984 anniversary.
I actually like the fact that my knives are in good condition but used, so I can EDC them without being worried too much they might get a scratch... I could buy and sell/trade but haven't done this yet (also no rating on Ebay...).  I'm a bit stuck here... :ahhh

I found a South African web shop that sells them for RND 850, which is a good price if you ask me. Half of what I paid for mine  :o

Or maybe I made a small mistake converting to euros  ??? :D

If it's Sharp Edge, the price is actually RND 1,850 (for some reason they use space for thousands separator...).

Hello fellow countryman,

My first post, I found this forum by accident when I was looking for Victorinox folders and the Wenger Mike Horn Ranger knife.

Well I have no clue if the Victorinox Damasteel Pioneers will appreciate in price, seeing what some of them seemingly on Ebay makes me think they will.
I'm lucky that I managed to buy 4 , yes four of these beautiful Damasteel Pioneer's  one is for pocket carry, in a nice soft leather sheath, the other 3 just to admire, all 4 have very different patterns, I just love Damascus  and also the Stainless Damasteel that Victorinox used.

Cheers,

Bagheera

The pattern even differs from one side to the other side, some even very much.

Thanks for the welcome,

Im not sure of the release price, although someone will chime in. The issue is simply its a sold out knife with lots of demand for ownership. Lumped in with the seeming increase in alox knives of recent, its a sellers market for such a piece.
I think I read swissbianco was looking at a damascus release this year some time, although I cant recall if that was for a alox soldier or the modern soldier style?

Roger is working on a new Soldier that will be out soon with a standard blade. There were a few soldiers with the damascus blades but there were only a few from memory and not forsale.
I do know someone that had a damascus blade put into an 08 soldier though. He just had to scrap the pioneer to do it.  :ahhh

The Damascus Pioneer has a retail price of 200 CHF, which at the time was pretty close to $200 US, but surprisingly some US dealers did sell for right near $150 give or take a few dollars.

Roger's working on some 111mm Damascus knives for 2011, you might keep an eye open for those; no word on price yet.

I don't know who the other party was, but Dan Jacquart would be a good person to give a history of this historic event.

These are the facts as I have them.

1.  About 6 years ago I became aware for Roger's initial attempts at a Damascus bladed SAK.  It was a cellidor model, and I believe had white scales. At the time I was trying to help him sell them with my then new project, SOSAKOnline.com.  I listed it and several other of his models (including one supposedly forged from meteorite metal) for sale, but as they were somewhat expensive, I don't believe they ever sold.  Bottom line is, he did make the first damascus SAK blade that I was aware of.

....

Back in those days he made a few. Nice bolsters on the red knife.
I've met Roger in person, he's a great guy.  :)
