Fenix PD20...quite a light
on: May 11, 2010, 07:22:32 PM
One of my newer ones. This is the latest version of this light...has one of the better pocket clips and also a nice little belt pouch if you prefer.

It claims 190 lumens with a one hour runtime. It also has 3 other brightness levels with very long runtimes. Also has strobe and SOS modes. Fenix really has the power regulation down right...turbo mode will maintain its maximum brightness for about 55 minutes of the one hour run.

The light it tiny...construction is excellent...nice big sturdy threads, o-ring sealed for water resistance. Nice solid feeling clicky.

It claims a throw of 135 meters. I dont have a way to measure that, but a tree in the backyard a couple of houses down from us is easy to light up. The spot is fairly tight but still have plenty of spill to light a wide area.

This would make a great defensive light that can be carried in your hand and nobody would notice it. It might actually be a little difficult to operate quickly if you have really large hands because it is so small.

Worth your time to check out.

One thing I've always disliked about Fenix CR123 lights that they don't regulate the higher voltage of an RCR123 (16340).  Basically, you lose all levels except turbo when using 3.7V Li-Ions.  Do you know if this is the case with the PD20?

I do seem to recall reading that the same thing happens with this light. I only use the regular 123s though so am not able to say for sure.

That is understandable...123s are not as easy to find and not cheap. In a pinch you can get them at Wally World, they just cost a fortune. I order mine in bulk which can knock the price down to less than a buck a battery. Usually order 50 at a time.
