Neck carries .
on: May 16, 2010, 03:47:47 PM
These are the three setups I use . The Kydex rig is for a Strider PT , mostly used for hiking etc . The neck carry is good for outdoor use as the neck quickly detects weight changes - thus preventing lost kit .

The full flap pouch is used for work , and contains a Vic. Electrician Plus , it usually rides in the left document pocket of my 5-11 work shirts .

The third is more or less for EDC , and contains a Vic. Alox Soldier . This rig also rides in the document pocket . ( I pretty much always wear 5-11's for both work and play )

I would never use a neck carry for defensive use , if you get knocked on yer arse , ye will never find it .

I never feel comfortable wearing things around my neck, especially with something fairly weighty like that Strider!

I'm a pocket carry guy I guess :)

Thats why I don't do neck carry with a FB . Even sheathed it could hurt if driven upwards by a fall . Dave , the PT is sub 3" , and not too heavy , tho stout . Dead handy when you are fishing in waders , just drop it down the chest pocket , also good kyaking , worn inside the PFD.

Oh, I though the PT was a bit bigger than that - I've not seen one on the flesh.

I do like the look of them, but its hard to justify the cost of a knife I can't EDC, so I appreciate them from pics like these :tu:

I agree with you on the price , I can EDC it ( Canada being a bit less anal ) but I pretty much restrict it to outdoor stuff . My daily carry locker is either the GAK , or the OH Soldier . Not as tuff as the Strider , but much more usefull at a fraction of the price . We are lucky , as a result of our history and geography , just in case is an acceptable reason , as is "it's a neat piece of kit and it cheers me up " . Our law is 99% intent based , with the onus generally being on the Crown .

I feel for my UK brothers and sisters .

I aquired a kydex rig for my UKPK to use around my neck.  Just can't get on with that method of carry.

I find neck carry only really works for back up devices , in an outdoor situation , or in a work situation where you are crawling thru a lot of gubbins . For preference , the main show would always be on the belt . Just that I have lost quite a few items in attics and crawlspaces.

Its good when wearing chest waders , or when wearing a PFD .

Nice looking carry options.  :)
Personally, I've never been able to get used to it when tried on occasion.  It just flops around too much
and that bothers me.  I tried tucking them under my sweater but then I find them too time consuming to
grab the line and pull them out.  Maybe I was strangled in my previous life because I get an uncomfortable
feeling with things strapped around my neck.
