War bayonet or SAK??? (images)
on: May 21, 2010, 11:57:32 PM
Well I ran across this strange knife and thought I would share it. It is very much like a bayonet with a scabbard but it also has SAK type folding blades and tools. It is not marked by anything other than an "S" on one side near the hilt. It has a corkscrew, awl, can opener/bottle opener and a screwdriver. What do yall think? ???

Very much puts me in mind of the german WWII trench knife that Hanwei reproduced a few years back ( http://www.heinnie.com/Knives/Hanwei/Hanwei-Trench-Knife-Short-Guard/p-92-145-1050/ ) but with added cool stuff. :tu:

It looks military but it is not a bayonet it does not have a receptacle fo a baynet lug.

I think Alcohol, Tabacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency.

According to members of Messerforum, this type of knife was made in WWII by German makers like Puma. They are called Werkzeugmesser, translated tool knives, or Kombinationskampfmesser (combined fighting knives). I´ll let you know if I find out more.
