The vice I was given looks like this now after a little clean (the knife is 9inches long inc the bail)
Everything’s adjustable

Are the holes on the vice jaws threaded so you can fit soft jaws in it?

They are not threaded Mark so I you would just make your own out of wood

The idea might be to screw into the wood from the outside?

I keep picking up tools. So I decided I needed somewhere to store them.

One of the two reason why I cite you as the reason I buy rusty things.   The second being your location, which is outside local calling for my wife.   ;)

I went back to the estate sale today.

A couple of large Plumb wrenches, a 3/8 Craftsman torque wrench, a Dewitt USA made Vice-Grip locking pliers, a Stanley 720 firmer chisel, and an unexpected find  in a $5 grab bag, a plastic handle Barlow knife, along with lots of other odds and ends. Not seen , a metal rake and a "The Mutt" oak handle scraper, root cutter.
