A perfect description of a UK car boot sale

I must admit I look at some stuff and wonder why on earth they are even attempting to sell it. Landfill fodder to say the least. But amongst the muck there you occasionally find a diamond.

Some good finds there. But that brings me to another question. How do you all feel about buying power tools at car boots? Ive always been a tad dubious. Call it my untrusting nature. Im more of a transient care boot buyer i dont often return to them as i go ones down the coast quite a way away from my native London.

In the age of eBay, I often suspect nowadays, a lot of the stuff at flea markets is eBay leftovers the individual selling it couldn't ditch that way. That would probably explain all the junk seen.

:iagree: I admit i have found some nice scale model kits at car boots and hand tools too. There is nothing quite like finding a beat up old axe head to restore. But I will never understand why people try to sell VHS tapes at car boots. Charity shops won't even take them any more.

I see a lot of them sold that seem to not even be actual movies--just shows people recorded on their DVR.

Yes you are right to be suspicious when buying but
A Guy said to me a few years ago that most of this stuff is from house clearance, the original owner would probably
throw away broken power tools so it's a good bet that they will be working

So far I have only bought two power tools that were no good from a guy that did me a great deal  ::)  :twak:  Bstard!

What isn't? Two decent looking power drills, two Footprint wrenches (at least in the States, they're exotic), axe head, hewing hatchet, plenty of gear pullers, and lots of small tools.

What are the punches with holes on the sides? And the roller chain with the piece stuck to it .Would like to know that they're for. And that Rodgers pruning knife--now that could be a perfect work knife to me. I only see the red handled SAK-clone "Regimentals" in the States.  Ever use the saw?

The hollow punches are for making holes in paper, cork, fabric, and leather. I use them for making wads for my black powder rifles, and revolvers.

This is what I found at the flea market yesterday a Dexter  Russell linoleum knife, old school box knife and pouch, and a light duty Stanley staple gun. Cost me five bucks for all of it.

Antique fair sort of thing, some nice tools but nowhere near as cheap as I would like. Paid 110 moneys for these. The Wenger and Diamond (? as in diamond calk ?) pliers were the best deals, 30 and 20 moneys, respectively.

Nice score! I'd love to buy that firefighter's belt axe off you, but I know the shipping would be ridiculous.

Channellocks, in the UK? That's definitely unusual; like me finding Lucas pliers at a flea market in the States.

I could look in to the shipping if you really wanted it  ;)

Only the second pair of Channellocks I have ever seen here in the UK (I bought the other pair as well  :D )
How cool is the internet? we can talk about Channellocks  / Eliot Lucas and we all know what we are all talking about  :tu: :tu:
