Nice buys!  Hard to go wrong with a Disston saw.  I don't imagine you see too many there.
Actually, most of the old branded saws I have seen here are Disstons. I have about 5 Disston panel saws awaiting restoration and there were a couple of other Disston tenon/dovetail saws plus a couple of unknown brand ones at the market.

That is interesting. I guess because they had the plant in Canada it made it easier and more cost efficient to ship the saws worldwide.

Today's estate sale buy.   The vise is a Rigid 500-R.  5 inch jaws.  The anvils are inexpensive owner made, but the give me something to bang on. The motor is a GE 1/3 hp.

Very nice haul
Everything’s adjustable

I've got these about a week ago and forgot to post it here.

The files are Vallorbe, The Footprint style (or Blitz Wrench as we call them here) is a German made Belzer, The plane is a nº4 Stanley made in Brazil with a nº3 lever cap, the duckbills are Brazilian made Belzers, and the adjustable is a Brazilian made Bachert.

It was hot here and the local market was pumping.
Some of the things I wanted were too expensive but I did get these.
The tenon saw is a Disston Canada (emblem on the other side).
He dropped the total to $23NZD (= $15USD).

Those are very nice finds! What's the maker of that saw set?

It's a Morrill. I'm not sure if it has a piece missing or not.
It looks like the Improved #1: http://members.acmenet.net/~con12a/saw%20set%20website/plier2.htm
I will know more when I have cleaned it up properly as I did see some dates somewhere...

I was not aware of this site, it's always interesting to see what other people collect. I was not aware of this company either, not really into saw sets but I'll have to get some eventually. But first I need some saws to set.

I only found that site when searching for Morrill saw sets on the internet.
This was another I found: http://www.vintagesaws.com/library/ftj/spring97/spring97.html

I found some old Disston saws and am trying to restore them, but they are good. It's all my folks had for many years--they couldn't afford power tools for many years. I need to learn to use a saw set, and buy one.

All old vises and anvils, I think, around here, get sold for scrap metal. I'm wanting to get into bladesmithing, and cannot, for the life of me, find a good anvil. My vise sucks--cheap Korean-made piece, probably from the '60s. And it's broken and missing parts. We have a decent (but too big for knife work) one mounted in the farm shop, and when I need a vise, I head down there. The upside also is that I don't get metal shavings in the house since they're not in the same building.

What about a short piece of railway iron (if there's a railway near you)?

I might need to make a call to the Norfolk Southern Pocahontas Division (HQ is in the next town over) and see if they have any scrap they could sell/give me. I have a small anvil made from a railroad track Granddad gave me, but I'm gonna have to resurface it. It's pretty badly pitted, and somewhat crude.

Try Amazon, you can get a good 50 pound anvil for a decent price.

Yeah.

I picked up a great piece of heavy rail.

Welded a nice hard flat plate to its top, gas axed and ground away a nice point and gave the thing the once over with a polisher.

Looks Ok and works great.

Ill post a pic when I get a chance.

I kinda got a couple deals myself today, first somethings been staring at me from across the street for the past few days, and I’ve kinda been wanting to go check it out, needless to say it’s a broken hockey stick, still in good condition just broken, so I’ll just saw off the bad end, clean it up, and then make a hiking stick out of it..

Then, a buddy knew we’ve been sitting on a crappy loveseat for so long and a friend of his just got new furniture, so he asked if if we wanted it? They rarely used it because it was the “when family was over” couch, so yeah it’s old and the design is kinda ugly but that’s what covers are for, all I know is this thing is so much more comfier then the other! And it’s supposedly by some company by lazy-boy,
So two scores for $0..

My latest rusty tool box haul.  Recognizable pieces, Vice-Grip 7R,  Rigid pipe threader ratchet head and one die.  Kraeuter 40-5 pliers. Nicholson file.  Irwin 300-3 wood handle screwdriver and a Waltham ignition wrench set

Nice scores.

Thank you!  I really got a lot more out of this than expected.  The only identifiable tools in the auction photos where the box and the Vise-Grips.  Everything else was hidden in a indistinguishable pile.  The only question is what to do with those two heavy jack handles?

I'm wondering, should I get a Workmate? The older ones have been tempting me for a number of years now.

Yeah, I got a cheap knock-off one a few years ago and it has been useful. If you get two you can support large pieces. I made a sawhorse the same height as my 'Workmate' for doing this.
