@Paul,
Did you want that Ax head? Its 7 ½ x 4 ¼ , too big?

@Gareth,
I nearly missed them, I was looking in a box of rusty tools as the owner was showing a guy some slippys (nothing that appealed to me)

I said thanks and as I was turning to go the first guy opens a box full of stuff, a bit of red caught my eye (as he was looking through I'm thinking don't take the SAK's Don't take the SAK's  >:D )

He left and I dived in, I should have picked up a few other bits he had  ::)

2nd (waiter?) and 3rd down on the left have the split corkscrews
Middle right is a Wenger
Bottom right sneaked in when I wasn't looking, made by 'stainless steel'  :twak:

Bottom is ''stainless steel Japan' and has 'Richard Cowling' scratched on the back of one of the springs  :D
The cork screw is broken off and the spring for the scissors is missing

Calipers are (by far!) the most frequently used measuring device at our shop. :) The dial caliper was just taking over from the vernier 30 years ago when I got started as a machinist. Nowadays though, the digital caliper is king. :salute:

A picture I found on the web that shows all three: :)

Nice haul Tony. I never find saks either. I do find plenty of Sheffield pen knives and footprints are fairly plentiful too but as I live and car boot in Sheffield you would kind of expect that.

Jut 2 things of note for me today.
The first is a small Richards pen knife which I have modified as my 6 year old wants to be like dad and carry a MT (I am so proud).
Second was a very small set of footprints. As you can see they are noticeably smaller that the 698s I got earlier.  They also have interesting branding as the top bit has the standard footprint logo but the bottom half is Thomas R Ellin Sheffield.  Both halves show pat applies for too.  Thomas R Ellin was the founder of footprint, so coupled with the pat pending I think these may be an early set. What's your thoughts?

Cheers Tony. :) I'd love to see a better picture of them* when you get a moment. :)

Both of yours look very early to me
Here are some differences in my Footprints  :salute:

My earliest '9inch' pair have footprint on both pieces but the small ones have (I think) just numbers on the top jaw

Later models have the size in imperial and metric (not sure if they only had imperial at some stage   :-\ )

The two on the left are my oldest

A You can see the bottom jaw has a triangle shape

B Newer jaws are square

C the newer ones top jaw is a wider, looks like an upside down T in shape

I got too much time on my hands  ::)

By the way have you shortened that pen knife to make it safer?

Yes Tony I did shorten/ round the knife blade. It only cost £1.25 so no really loss. Already got use out of it and my boy. He is busy using the bottle opener at a BBQ.

I very much like the idea of modifying a tool to make it more personal  :tu:
I'm sure its already one of his most treasured possessions  :)

The whole thing looks like way too much fun.

Some day (hopefully in the not too distant future) my wife and I are going to spend a few weeks in Europe. Between now and then I need to come up with a good answer to: "Why are we spending £50 to mail all those junky old tools home?"

Another good haul Tony.

I go to car boot sales almost every week during the summer and I normally manage to find only one or two genuine SAks every year :(

So far this year just a Classic.
I'm not taking any more mod orders at present, sorry.

Very hot and very busy morning at the Carboot

A nice large ball pein hammer and screwdriver to add to my collection

A 'SAK' made in Solingen that needs some oil and a clean up

A 'Barlow Shackler Knife' (that's what it says on the side) made in Sheffield by G Ibberson

A 'BAK' looks like someone has filled the letters off the side
Might say  C.C. 1286
                  IBH SHEFFIELD

A blue waiter with 'Helpman' on the scales  :tu:

:pok:  And a sheath with something shiny in it   :pok:

WOW Tony I bet you would hardly ever see a LM at a car boot sale in the UK  :o :o :o 8) 8) 8).

I once saw a small broken handled Opinel for $12 at a Aussie car boot sale , I think I must of looked very shocked when he told me the price  ::) ::) ::).

Thanks Guys I'm happy again  :tu:

I got most of the knives from the same Guy as last time
He seams to be a trader,
A lot of his stuff is in glass topped cases so you say 'can I have a look in that one please' and you get to have a rummage around in there,
Some of the cases are stuffed full  :tu:
I give the guy the bits I want as I pick them out and he says 'that's another 4quid etc'
I was nearly finished when I saw the cheap looking sheath above
The Guy says 'that's a Leatherman in there'
I'm thinking 'I bet its not really'   :)
But it was and I more than doubled my total (@ ABH I think a good price but not cheap)

There's a little Antique/junk shop I sometimes visit when I'm in the area
The Guy that runs it is a nice bloke, so I sometimes have a little chat with him
He had a No7 Opinel once, I was surprised as he had never seen one so I told him all about it  :D
He was asking 5 pounds for it in used condition  ::)
I don't think he believed me when I told him they are 8 or 9 quid new  >:D

Looks like you had a good day of hunting at the car boot sale Tony. The Barlow Shackler Knife looks interesting. I`m not a sailor but I always seem to be drawn to those type of knives. But I must admit even tho I find them interesting I`ve never bought one.    Original SuperTool.   8)  Whats the date codes in that jewel?
