G'day fellow MT tragics
I've just had a couple of new sheaths made and guess you fellas would like to see them.
Firstly the nylon sheath that came with my Charge is nearly dead. Years of being on my hip in some pretty tough places including Australia, Canada and PNG have taken their toll and there are a couple of fair sized holes in the bottom that are only a few strands away from joining up. So I took it to a friends wife who does leather work and webbing mods and asked her to replicate it. As you can see from the photos below she's done a pretty nice job of pretty much exactly replicating the sheath which I'm stoked with. Not only that there is a strip of leather sewn into the two nylon outers so this should last a lot longer. I'm not entirely sure about the skull and crossbones motif that got added but I can easily sharpie that out.
So I'm pretty damn happy with that.
Secondly my new impulse buy (Mil-Tac SRK-2) arrived without a pouch and, given that its huge and oddly shaped I couldn't find an off the shelf pouch for it. This sheath is fully leather and the lady has kindly embossed my initials into the flap. Otherwise, the snap closure is offset so that I can use the pocket clip and given its so long the belt holes are also offset to ensure it sits on my hip more comfortably. I am having a little trouble grabbing enough of the knife to pull it out right now but am able to trim a couple of pieces of leather off the top without any dramas. otherwise I do plan to put it onto a 2 inch webbing belt so i'll have to enlarge the belt holes but again, with the current design that won't be an issue. Overall its probably not the most aesthetically pleasing design, however neither is the knife it holds and I'm more of a fan of function, It will be worn under my fire jacket anyway so most people will never see it.
